11/11/2022 1:12:00 PM

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Green Bay basketball head coach Will Ryan announced the addition of three recruits to the 2023 class on Friday. Joining the Phoenix next season as true freshmen will be Marcus Hall, Cal Klesmit, and Mac Wrecke.

MARCUS HALL | 6-6 | FORWARD | DC EVEREST HIGH SCHOOL
Hall on choosing Green Bay:

"The biggest reasons were the coaching staff and the culture that is being built there. The coaching staff is a group that I could see myself enjoying playing under and improving greatly. I also want to be a part of the culture that they are building there. I am looking forward to competing at the D1 level and continuing chasing my dream of being a college basketball player."

Career Accolades:
  • 2021-22 WIAA All-State Honorable Mention
  • Player of the Year in the Wisconsin Valley Conference
  • Averaged 28.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 4.2 assists last season as a junior
Ryan on Hall:
"Marcus is a super versatile 6'8 point forward who has very bright future in the Green & White. He really came on this past spring/summer and solidified himself as one of the better prospects in the Midwest. Like his future classmates, Marcus is a gym rat who shoots and passes the ball at a really high level. His basketball IQ and competitiveness will be a great addition to our program for years to come. We are very excited to coach and develop Marcus next season!"

High School Coach Oliver Drake on Hall:
"UWGB Basketball did an outstanding job recruiting Marcus.  With that said, his humility, work ethic, skill set, an overall character will be a great addition to the Phoenix Basketball Program.  We can't wait to see what the future holds for what will be an outstanding senior season leading our program and in his promising college career at UWGB."

CAL KLESMIT | 6-3 | GUARD | NEENAH HIGH SCHOOL
Klesmit on choosing Green Bay:

"I'm excited to play for a team I have been watching since I was a little kid. I can't wait to wear the Green Bay green and white and play for Coach Ryan. I look forward to winning a Horizon League Championship."

Career Accolades:
  • Helped Neenah to a WIAA State Title while recovering from an injury his junior season
Ryan on Klesmit:
"We are thrilled to have Cal join our program! Cal is an outstanding shooter, fierce competitor and comes from a winning high school program at Neenah. He is also an exceptional passer with a phenomenal basketball IQ. Cal's ability to shoot the ball and keep defenses honest will be huge in helping us space the floor and we love that Cal plays with the mentality that every shot is going in."

High School Coach Lee Rabas on Klesmit:
"Green Bay is getting a skilled left-handed guard with great finishing skills, court vision, and a high basketball IQ.  When the basketball is in his hands you better be ready to catch and score. He is an outstanding passer. Besides the skill set Cal brings a team centered attitude, competitiveness, and a winning mentality. On a personal note I have been a Phoenix fan since the late 70's and am excited for both Cal and the GB program."

MAC WRECKE | GUARD/FORWARD | ARROWHEAD HIGH SCHOOL
Wrecke on choosing Green Bay:

"There is a lot to love about Green Bay. It is close to home so I would be able to see my parents a lot. The coaches and players always made me feel super welcome and at home when I talked to them and visited. I'm really looking forward to getting to know my teammates for next year and helping the program rise to the top of the Horizon League."

Career Accolades:
  • Two-time WIAA First Team All-State (2020-21, 2021-22)
  • Two-time First Team All Classic 8 Conference
  • Averaged 20.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.1 assists during his junior season
Ryan on Wrecke:
"Mac is a strong, versatile and athletic wing/shooter with huge upside. He scores the ball extremely well at all three levels and has the ability to finish well above the rim. As a shooter, he will help us open the floor up for drives and post touches. Mac also plays for a winning high school program (Arrowhead) and is poised to have a big senior year. We are really excited to bring Mac on board with us next season!"

High School Coach Craig Haase on Hall:
"Mac Wrecke is a two-time D1 First Team All-State Selection, and he will be the only 4 year starter in the last 25 years at Arrowhead High School! Mac is currently the second all-time leading scorer in school history with 1494 points (72 points from breaking the record)! Mac has won a Classic 8 Conference Championship and 2 WIAA Regional Championships. Mac was named a team captain as a junior by his teammates. Mac is an excellent student. Most importantly, Mac is a tremendous young man who is unselfish, kind, and a positive teammate! It has been an honor and privilege to coach Mac over the last 4 years and I can not wait to see the impact he makes at UWGB! The Phoenix are getting a special player and person!"
