Green Bay Falters in Second Half at Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. --The Green Bay men's basketball team kept it close through the first half, but eventually fell 92-58 to the Georgetown Hoyas on the road Saturday morning.
 
The Phoenix (0-2) had two players score in double figures, led by Clarence Cummings III, who had 14 points and three steals. Zae Blake added 13 points off of the bench for GB.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Nate Jenkins started the game with a three-pointer at the 19:25 mark, giving Green Bay an early 3-0 lead. After playing to a 12-12 tie, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run with 11:01 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Randy Tucker that gave GB a 19-12 lead. Georgetown responded with a run of their own, rattling off a 19-5 run to grab a 31-24 lead with 1:10 left in the half. However, but Tucker and Donovan Short contributed late buckets to bring the Phoenix within two at the half 31-29.
 
The Hoyas opened the second half with an 8-0 run before Davin Zeigler put the Phoenix on the board. Green Bay shot well from three-point range, hitting five of twelve shots from deep, but struggled to find other offense as the Hoyas gradually distanced themselves, pulling away to an eventual 92-58 final score.
 
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay found success from behind the arc, knocking down nine treys in the game.
» The GB bench came alive, adding 28 points to the team score.
» Clarence Cummings III led the Phoenix in three categories: points (14), rebounds (five), and steals (three).
» Eleven Green Bay points came off Georgetown turnovers.
» Primo Spears led Georgetown wit 21 points and five assists.
 
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will turn their attention back to the badger state, squaring off against Wisconsin in Madison on Tuesday at 8:00 p.m.
