DAYTON, Ohio – The Green Bay volleyball team will square off against the Youngstown State Penguins in the first round of the Horizon League tournament on November 18 at 2 p.m. CT. The Phoenix is the No. 3 seed and the Penguins are the No. 6 seed. With a win, the Phoenix will face No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky on November 19. All matches will be played at McLin Gymnasium on the campus of Wright State University, which earned the right to host the tournament by winning the Horizon League regular-season championship.

REGULAR SEASON IN REVIEW
The Phoenix finished the regular season with a 22-10 record, going 13-5 in Horizon League play. GB finished the season with sweeps of conference rivals Oakland and Milwaukee, both on the road.

Alexandra Zakutney led the Phoenix on the offensive side during the season, averaging 3.55 kills per set and 398 total. Calli Gentry sits 13th in Division I with 1,148 assists on the year. Graduate transfer Angie Gromos has been a revelation on defense, garnering 129 blocks during the regular season. Zakutney and Calli were just named First Team All-Horizon League, while Gromos picked up a Second Team nod.
 
TWO IN A ROW
Green Bay returns to the Horizon League Championship for the second consecutive season and the fourth time in head coach Abbey Sutherland's five seasons with the Phoenix. In 2021, GB played UIC in the quarterfinals and fell in a tightly-contested match that went to five sets.
 
YOUNGSTOWN STATE REMATCH
GB has faced Youngstown State twice in the 2022 season. At the Kress Center on September 24, the Phoenix won 3-1 on the backs of 16-kill performances from both Zakutney and Tiffany Paalman. Playing in Youngstown on October 21, Green Bay swept the Penguins, bolstered by eight blocks from Gromos.
