CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The season came to an end for the Green Bay men's soccer team Wednesday afternoon, as they drew league-leaders Cleveland State 1-1. The Phoenix finished the season with 11 points in the Horizon League standings, just one point back from the final HL Championship qualifying spot. Overall, 2022 was a bounce-back year from the program, finishing the season 6-3-7 overall and 2-2-5 in Horizon League play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Cleveland State took the lead in the first half with a goal from Albert Portas that was assisted by Jannis Schmidt. The Vikings outshot the Phoenix 7-2 in the frame.
Green Bay turned up the intensity in the second half and eventually equalized with a Kolton Prater penalty kick goal in the 61st minute. Keegan Walker drew the penalty after beating a Viking defender to the ball and being brought down in the box.
GAME NOTES
- Dylan Moua was the lone player to receive a yellow card in Wednesday's contest.
- Tobias Jahn totaled five saves for the Phoenix out of 12 total Vikings shots.
- Green Bay was outshot 12-8 and 6-2 in shots on goal.
- Cleveland State wrapped up the regular season Horizon League title with the win.
