ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – It was another hard-fought battle Friday afternoon at the St. Pete's Showcase for the Green Bay women's basketball team. Sydney Levy and Jasmine Kondrakiewicz led the Phoenix (3-2, 0-0 HL) to victory with 14 and 10 points, respectively. Levy, a senior guard, found success from beyond the arc all day, knocking down four triples in eight attempts.
Kondrakiewicz was a spark off the bench, tallying seven of her 10 points in the second half. Hailey Oskey added eight points, while Maddy Schreiber and Tatum Koenig recorded seven each.
Gemima Motema and Derin Erdogan paced the Huskies (2-4, 0-0 CAA). Motema scored 14 points, shooting 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Erdogan chipped in with 13 points on 6-of-17 shooting, and Halle Idowu led all players with nine rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first two quarters were low scoring, as both teams didn't shoot the ball particularly well. Green Bay kept getting open looks, weaving around a stingy Northeastern defense but was down 10-8 after the opening frame. Schreiber was impactful for the Phoenix, recording two points, an assist, and a rebound.
In the second quarter, it was Northeastern that struggled offensively. GB outscored the Huskies 11-5 in the stanza thanks to Levy, who drained two threes in the final 1:23 of the quarter. Oskey forced the lone Husky turnover of the frame with a steal, helping give the Phoenix a quick spark and a 19-15 lead heading into intermission.
Both teams awoke from their offensive slumber in the third quarter, combining for 30 points in the stanza after totaling 34 in the first half. Oskey drilled two triples in the opening minutes of the third quarter, putting the Phoenix up 25-19 with 7:13 left in the frame. Motema helped Northeastern respond, capping a 7-0 run with a jumper inside the arc to retake the lead at 26-25. Kondrakiewicz scored four quick points off the bench, but Motema would make four free throws to end the quarter, handing Northeastern a 33-31 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
GB opened the floodgates in the final quarter, racking up 25 points. The Phoenix made four consecutive shots from deep (two by Levy, one from Kondrakiewicz and Koenig) in the span of 2:29, flipping the game upside down to give Green Bay a 48-40 lead with 3:30 remaining in the game. Erdogan and Motema tried to make it interesting, but the Phoenix kept pressing and pulled away for a 56-46 win.
