Fourth Quarter Struggles Hamper Phoenix at Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. --The Green Bay women's basketball battled in Milwaukee Thursday night, but struggled in the fourth quarter and lost to the Milwaukee Panthers 59-52 in their Horizon League opener.

Maddy Schreiber led the team in scoring with ten points, while Bailey Butler and Hailey Oskey chipped in with nine each.

Green Bay forced 14 Milwaukee turnovers, and Oskey picked up four steals. The Phoenix held Milwaukee to a mere four three-point field goals to contribute to their stingy defensive effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay kept it close in the first quarter but entered the second frame down 12-10. Cassie Schiltz scored four points and recorded a steal that turned into a bucket by Schreiber.

Milwaukee kept adding to that lead, building a 30-21 advantage. Green Bay then went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by a three from Sydney Levy, to narrow its deficit to 30-26 with 1:52 left in the quarter. The deficit remained the same heading into halftime, with the Panthers claiming a narrow 34-30 advantage.

After intermission, Green Bay cut the deficit to 40-39 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by another three from Levy, to grab a 45-40 lead with 2:57 to go in the third. The Phoenix held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 49-44 edge, netting 19 points on the Panthers in the quarter. Green Bay played well inside, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.

The Phoenix struggled for offensive production in the fourth quarter, with their only points coming on a Callie Genke triple with six minutes to go. Milwaukee methodically closed the gap, taking the lead with 2:47 to go and winning by a final of 59-52.
