Women’s Basketball Adds Three on 2022 National Signing Day

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Head coach Kevin Borseth and the Green Bay women's basketball program announced they added four recruits to the 2023 class on national signing day. Joining the Phoenix next year are Sophie Lahti, Meghan Schultz, and Maren Westin.

"These young ladies demonstrate the skill level, work ethic, and character that is consistent with Green Bay Basketball," Borseth said. "What is exciting about this class is they fill an immediate need for us at their positions.  The biggest piece for us is they chose Green Bay. We couldn't be more excited about this class."

SOPHIE LAHTI | 6-1 | FORWARD | PINE CITY, MINN. | PINE CITY HIGH SCHOOL
Lahti on choosing Green Bay:
"I chose Green Bay for a multitude of reasons. First of all, I tore my ACL last fall which caused me to speed up my commitment process. I looked at all of my options and decided that Green Bay was the best. What helped me choose them was that they had my academic interests, they have a great basketball culture surrounding their women's team, and the coaches are incredibly supportive."

Career Accolades:
  • All-State Honorable Mention (2020-21)
  • Two-time All-Conference Selection (2019-20, 2020-21)
  • All-Conference Honorable Mention (2018-19)

Borseth on Lahti:
"Sophie is a long athlete that can rebound and run in a class where we needed to add size.  She has a tremendous work ethic with the ability to score both around the rim and from beyond the arc."

High School Coach Ted Hasz on Lahti:
"Sophie is a kind, caring and responsible young woman. She is a tremendous basketball player but she is so much more than that. She has been part of three consecutive undefeated conference championships. With her length and athleticism, she is able to change the game both on offense and defense."

"Her presence is felt throughout our program, our school and our community from top to bottom. We are so happy that Sophie is signing with the University of Wisconsin Green Bay! We are ready to support her in her journey after high school!"

MEGHAN SCHULTZ | 6-4 | FORWARD/CENTER | WAUKESHA, WIS. | NEW BERLIN WEST HIGH SCHOOL
Schultz on choosing Green Bay:
"I choose Green Bay because of the overall atmosphere and coaches they have. Every time I talked to the coaches on the phone or in person I felt at home. I felt extremely comfortable and accepted every time I was there and I knew that Green Bay was where I was supposed to be."

Career Accolades:
  • WBCA Division 2 All-State Selection (2021-22)
  • Two-time First Team Woodland West Conference Selection (2020-21, 2021-22)
  • All-Freeman Girls Basketball Team (2021-22)
  • WBCA Division 2 All-State Honorable Mention (2020-21)
  • Woodland West Conference Honorable Mention (2019-20)

Borseth on Schultz:
"
Megan had a tremendous summer playing against some of the best centers in the country.  She showed she belonged.  I believe she has a really big upside to be a dominant player around the glass for us."

High School Coach Collin Thompson on Schultz:
"In my opinion, Meghan's best attribute is her inner drive for wanting to be the best version of herself. Watching her grow up through our Youth Program, I knew we had something special on its way, but time would tell as she continued to grow and mature. Once she got to the high school level, her mark on the program has been evident since that first practice."

"As Meghan's career at West is coming to an end, she will surpass almost every statistical category as it relates to points, rebounds, and FG %. She has made us a better team each year, and has helped elevate her teammates abilities due to the amount of attention she draws and us to play through the post to generate our offense."

MAREN WESTIN | 5-8 | GUARD | BECKER, MINN.
Westin on choosing Green Bay:
"They did a great job of making me feel welcome and wanted right from the beginning of my recruiting journey. I loved the coaching staff and the way they care about their players. They clearly want to help me to develop as a player and as a person. I also love their intensity during practice and games, and how the players interact with each other and have fun while performing at a high level. I appreciate the culture and the support the program gets from the Green Bay community."

Career Accolades:
  • Three-time All-Conference Selection (2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22)
  • Two-time All-State Selection (2020-21, 2021-22)
  • State All-Tournament Team
  • Played in the last four Minnesota 3A State Championship games
    • One state championship
    • Two second-place finishes
    • One cancelled (COVID-19)

Borseth on Westin:
"Maren is a shifty guard that brings a skill set that is consistent with some of the great lead guards we have had at Green Bay. She fills the stat sheet in just about every statistical category while making the players around her better."

High School Coach Dan Baird on Westin:
"Maren's love of basketball and knowledge of the game and its history, separates her from other talented players like her. She genuinely celebrates the success of others her positive energy has spread through the entire program. This has been so vital to establishing a championship culture. From a young age, Maren has flourished on the big stage, calming the nerves of teammates. She just makes basketball fun for all those around her!"
