Green Bay Downs Prairie View A&M, Drops Game Two Against UIW

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – It was another split for the Green Bay softball team at day two of the UIW Invitational. The Phoenix grabbed a 6-2 win over Prairie View A&M before falling to UIW 4-2.
 
GAME 1
The Phoenix put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Green Bay scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Becca Edwards.

The Phoenix then held the Panthers scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Green Bay scored twice on Randi McKay's two-run homer, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Phoenix.

Prairie View A&M narrowed Green Bay's lead to 5-1 before the Phoenix stretched the advantage to 6-1 in the sixth inning. The Phoenix scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Samantha Soley. Prairie View A&M put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Green Bay still coasted to the 6-2 win.

Freshman Abigail Gawlinski (1-0) started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay (2-1). The right-hander went 4.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing four walks and striking out seven.

GAME NOTES
» Green Bay pitchers limited Prairie View A&M to just 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
» The Phoenix drew six walks from Prairie View A&M pitching.
» Edwards led the Phoenix at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a home run and three RBIs.
» Prairie View A&M was led offensively by freshman Makala Barnes, who went 2-for-3 with a double.

GAME 2
Trailing 1-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the second inning. Green Bay plated two runs when Crystal Guzman left the yard with Alicia Peters aboard. The Phoenix were unable to hold the lead, as Incarnate Word scored three times over the remaining five innings to grab the 4-2 win.

Brittany Baneck (1-1) got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss.

Guzman led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 1-for-2 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBIs. Tiffany Giese put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. McKay also chipped in, going 2-for-3 for Green Bay with a walk.

GAME NOTES
» The Phoenix drew four walks from Incarnate Word pitching.
» Incarnate Word was led offensively by freshman Avalon Sanchez, who went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.
