GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay women's basketball team stayed in the win column for a ninth consecutive game with a 75-46 blowout victory over UIC Thursday night at the Kress Center.
Sydney Levy led the Phoenix (16-5, 12-3) with 21 points. Brooklyn Blackburn chipped in with nine points, while Jasmine Kondrakiewicz added five points, four assists, and three blocks from the bench.
Jaida McCloud paced the Flames with 16 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter after Brooklyn Blackburn drilled a three on a fastbreak. The Phoenix never looked back, leading for all but 2:10 in the game. UIC was able to tie the game at nine after Lindsey Rogers knocked down a triple with 3:41 to go, but Hailey Oskey answered with a three-point play with 3:23 left in the first frame. Oskey's play would begin a 10-2 Green Bay run that ended the first.
UIC wouldn't let the Phoenix run away, showing some fight after a McCloud three put them within two, down 21-19 with 7:09 before halftime. It would go back-and-forth for the next 3:06, but GB would start to separate themselves, going up 32-23 after another Blackburn trey with 2:56 to go. Sydney Levy splashed a three with 55 seconds left in the half, and Green Bay went into intermission up 39-25. Levy poured in 16 of her 21 points in the first half.
Both teams came out of the break scoreless for the first 2:19, but it was Keona Schenck doing work in the lane to open the scoring, making it 39-27 with 7:41 to go. McCloud would tack on a layup, but the 12-point deficit is the closest UIC would get within of GB the rest of the game.
The Phoenix would continue to run away in the fourth quarter, doubling up the Flames 20-10. Levy scored her remaining five points to lead GB in the frame. Green Bay would balloon their lead to 28 after Caelan Givens, a redshirt freshman, sunk a three. The Phoenix would get its largest lead of the game, 29 points, near the end of the game after Kendall Renard got in on the action with a triple. GB would finish 13-of-27 from long-range en route to the 75-46 win.
