MILWAUKEE, Wis. - Cold second half shooting stopped the Green Bay women's basketball from winning their eleventh-straight game Monday night, as they fell to the Milwaukee Panthers 50-48. The Phoenix had a 29-16 lead at the half.
Meghan Pingel led the Phoenix (17-6, 13-4) with nine points, three assists and two rebounds. Maddy Schreiber added seven points and Cassie Schiltz chipped in as well with seven points.
Green Bay did a great job disrupting Milwaukee shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Schreiber's three rejections led the way individually for the Phoenix.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 6-3, Green Bay went on a 10-0 run with 6:08 left in the first quarter to take a 13-6 lead. The Phoenix maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 17-10 advantage. Green Bay did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 17 points close to the basket.
Green Bay kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 9:47 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Hailey Oskey, to increase its lead to 24-10. The Panthers cut into that lead, but the Phoenix still enjoyed a 29-16 advantage heading into halftime. Green Bay was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its 12 points.
Green Bay continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Julia Hartwig, to expand its lead further to 35-21 with 7:54 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Panthers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Phoenix still entered the fourth quarter with a 41-33 edge.
GB struggled to score in the final frame, only scoring seven points compared to the Panthers 17. GB had a 48-41 lead with 4:52 left in the fourth but failed to score the remainder of the game while the Panthers ripped off a 9-0 run to steal the game from the Phoenix.

» Green Bay got a team-high six rebounds from Hailey Oskey.

» Emma Wittmershaus led all scorers with 20 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-3 from three.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will close out the regular season this week with a two-game trip starting with Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday and Cleveland State on Saturday.
