CLEVELAND, Ohio - It was a tough night for the Green Bay men's basketball team, who fell to Cleveland State 85-69. The Phoenix got standout performances from Nate Jenkins, Emmanuel Ansong, and Cade Meyer, who combined to score 53 of Green Bay's 69 total points.
The Phoenix (4-17, 3-9) was led by Jenkins, who had a career-high 19 points and two steals. Ansong tacked on 17 points and eight rebounds while Meyer helped out with a career-high 17 points and six rebounds of his own.
Ansong pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Green Bay offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into 13 second chance points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay battled early before falling down 19-10 with 11:15 to go in the half. The Phoenix wasn't able to chip into that lead thanks to scorching-hot shooting from Cleveland State. The Vikings shot 17-for-26 in the frame (65.4-percent) and took a 44-33 into halftime because of it.
The Phoenix was able to battle back early in the second half and cut the lead to seven after a made free throw from Meyer. That was as close as GB got however, as the Vikings stretched their lead out to 24 before taking the contest by a final of 85-69.
GAME NOTES
» Jenkins got his first start of the season, and played a team-high 36 minutes.
» Green Bay cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 11 offensive boards in the game.
» Cleveland State won the rebounding battle 29-28.
» The Phoenix shot 25-for-59 (42.4-percent) from the floor, but allowed the Vikings to shoot 33-for-52 (63.5-percent), which is the highest they've surrendered to an opponent this season.
» Green Bay got a game-high eight rebounds from
Emmanuel Ansong.
