CHICAGO, Ill. - It took seven innings for Sunday's series finale between the Green Bay softball team and UIC to be decided, with the Phoenix bringing across two runs in the top of the seventh and slamming the door on the Flames' offense to take the game 3-1. The Phoenix took two out of three games in the series after the two teams split on Saturday.
GB jumped out in front immediately in the first thanks to an RBI single from sophomore Jadin Justman that scored senior Tiffany Giese.
The Flames tied the game in the third on a sac fly from Tara McElligott. GB reclaimed their lead in the seventh after loading the bases with one out and scoring runs on an RBI walk from graduate student Alicia Peters, as well a wild pitch that scored sophomore Samantha Saloun.
Senior Brittany Baneck (8-7) started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks, and striking out two.
Justman led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with an RBI. Giese put together a solid performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4. Sophomore Gracie Peterson also helped out, finishing 2-for-3 at the dish.
