MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Green Bay softball team bounced back in impressive fashion Monday afternoon, taking both games against Horizon League-leading Robert Morris.
GAME 1 | Green Bay 3, Robert Morris 2
The Phoenix got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Green Bay got an RBI single from sophomore
Samantha Saloun, scoring senior
Tiffany Giese from second base.
Robert Morris took a 2-1 lead after scoring a run in both the fourth and fifth innings. Sophomore
Gracie Peterson gave Green Bay the lead once again in the sixth inning with a two-RBI triple that made the game 3-2. The score remained 3-2 for the rest of the game, thanks to senior
Brittany Baneck (9-9) slamming the door on the Colonials' offense in the sixth and seventh innings.
Baneck started on the rubber and went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on four hits, allowing no walks, and striking out eight.
Peterson led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 1-for-3 with the game-winning two-RBI triple. Saloun put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Alicia Peters also helped out, going 2-for-3.

» The Phoenix out-hit the Colonials at a 6-4 clip.
» Baneck limited Robert Morris to just 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
» Robert Morris was led offensively by sophomore Meadow Sacadura, who went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.

The Phoenix took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, scoring first with an RBI single from Saloun, followed up by an RBI double from sophomore
Jadin Justman.
Green Bay lost some of its lead in the bottom of the fourth before expanding its lead once again in the top of the fifth. Senior
Tiffany Giese came across to score the lone run of the inning for GB, which brought the Phoenix lead to 3-1. Robert Morris rallied in the bottom of the fifth, but only scored one run and eventually fell 3-2.
Lauren King started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay, throwing 3.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits, with no walks and two strikeouts. Freshman
Abigail Gawlinski was also solid on the rubber, pitching 3.2 innings in relief, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks, and striking out five.

» Gawlinski struck out five Colonials hitters.
» Green Bay grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.

A LOOK OVER THE HORIZON
Through 17 Horizon League games, Green Bay sits fifth in the league standings at 10-7. Coming into Monday, Robert Morris led the Horizon League with a 14-3 record, but fell to second after dropping both games to the Phoenix. The top six teams in the league make the Horizon League Championships.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Phoenix returns to Green Bay on Wednesday to take on Cleveland State in a doubleheader at 2 & 4 p.m. Following, they'll travel to IUPUI for a three-game set starting with a single game on Friday at 2 p.m.
