GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay Volleyball team is starting their season this weekend at the Buffs Invitational in Boulder, Colorado. The Phoenix will take on Colorado and Denver tomorrow before wrapping the tournament up with Western Michigan on Saturday.

Green Bay has never faced off against Colorado or Denver, but has played Western Michigan twice. The Phoenix is 0-2 all-time against the Broncos, having last matched up on Sept. 5, 1998. Western Michigan has win six out of the seven sets between the two teams.
FAMILIAR FACES
The Phoenix attack will be led by multiple returners, including 2021 first Team All-Horizon League selection Alexandra Zakutney. Last Season, Zakutney led the team with 400 kills, which was also the eighth-most in the HL. She also recorded a team-leading 51 service aces and 479.5 points. Shannon Coughlin, Tiffany Paalman, and Cora Behnke rounded out the top four in kills last season for the Phoenix. All four are returning in 2022.
WINNING WAYS
Since the appointment of Abbey Sutherland as the program's head coach in 2018, the Phoenix has finished in the top half of the Horizon League all but one season. Sutherland is 60-48 as the head coach at Green Bay.
TOURNAMENT PLAY
The Phoenix will play 13 of its first 14 matches in a tournament setting, with the only non-tournament match being at in-state Rival Marquette on September 13. GB's Horizon League opener will be on September 20 when the team travels to Indianapolis to take on IUPUI.
