GREEN BAY, Wis. - After a tough loss to Marquette earlier in the week, the Green Bay volleyball team will look to bounce back this weekend when they host the Green Bay Invite. Drake, North Dakota, SIUE, and Western Illinois will make the trip to Green Bay for the event.

1 p.m. - SIUE vs. Green Bay 
5 p.m. - Western Illinois vs. Drake 
7 p.m. - Western Illinois vs. Green Bay 

A WEEK TO REMEMBER
In the same week that Alexandra Zakutney surpassed the 1,000-kill mark, she was also named the #HLVB Player of the Week.

Zakutney played her best volleyball of the 2022 season this past week. At the Ball State Tournament, Zakutney led the Phoenix to a 2-1 weekend with wins over Alabama and Arkansas State. The redshirt junior recorded three double-doubles, starting with a season-high 20 kills and 12 digs to take down Alabama 3-1. She followed that performance with 15 kills and ten digs in a 3-0 win against Arkansas State and 14 kills and 15 digs in a narrow 3-2 loss against Ball State. Zakutney also finished with a team-high nine kills against Marquette on Tuesday, the ninth being her 1,000th kill. She is just the eighth in Green Bay Volleyball history to hit the mark.

STARTING OFF STRONG
Angie Gromos, a grad transfer from Northern Illinois, was named Horizon League Player of the Week on September 7. Gromos has been a revelation in the middle for the Phoenix early on in the 2022 season. In a 2-1 weekend at the Redbird Classic, Gromos averaged 9.6 kills on a scorching .547 hitting percentage to go along with 5.0 blocks. Gromos leads all Phoenix with 45.0 blocks on the year.

WINNING WAYS
Since hiring Abbey Sutherland as the program's sixth head coach in 2018, the Phoenix has finished in the top half of the Horizon League in all but one season. GB also made the NCAA Tournament during Sutherland's first year in 2018, when the Phoenix finished 20-11 in the regular season. Sutherland is 65-52 as the head coach at Green Bay.
