INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Green Bay volleyball team took care of business in three sets (25-19, 25-14, 25-20) to beat the IUPUI Jaguars Tuesday on the road. The moved the Phoenix's record to 10-5 overall and 1-0 in Horizon League action.
Tiffany Paalman finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Phoenix offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .600. Defensively, three players reach double figures in digs, including Annelise Sparks' 13, 12 from Kayla Lass, and 11 more from Alexandra Zakutney.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix jumped out in front from the get-go and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-19. Green Bay led by as many as six points at 23-17 before finishing off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process.
SET 2 | Green Bay took the second set 25-14 to promptly jump to a 2-0 lead. Green Bay opened up as much as a 12 point lead at 23-11 before closing out the set. Green Bay's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four IUPUI attacks in the set.
SET 3 | Green Bay finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after winning the third set, 25-20. The third set was a back-and-forth battle but Green Bay took the lead at 18-17 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Phoenix took over in the second half of the frame.
GAME NOTES
» Lass had a match-high two aces in the win.
» Green Bay got a match-high 13 digs from Sparks.
» Green Bay attackers were helped by a match-high 28 assists from Calli Gentry.
» GB has won five-straight matches, the first time since a five win streak at the start of the 2019 season.
» The Phoenix has won 15 of its last 17 sets.
» Paalman has registered double-digit kills in three of the last four matches.
COMING UP
The Phoenix will return home this weekend with a pair of Horizon League matches on Friday and Saturday. GB will take on Robert Morris on Friday at 6 p.m. followed by Youngstown State Saturday at 2 p.m.
