HORIZON LEAGUE STANDINGS
Green Bay is 73-23 against their in-state rivals dating back to the series opener in 1975. GB is an impressive 46-9 on their home court against the Panthers and swept MKE at the Kress Center last season, including a 57-42 victory in the Horizon League Quarterfinal. Despite having a 27-14 record on the road against Milwaukee, the Panthers have had GB's number in the 414 lately, defeating the Phoenix 59-52 in the Cream City on December 1, 2022, and 50-48 on February 21, 2022.
The Phoenix has enjoyed success against IUPUI, winning seven of the first 10 matchups. GB won the first four but has dropped two of the last three. Green Bay defeated the Jaguars 71-56 on February 19, 2022, in their last meeting.
ABOUT THE PANTHERS
Kyle Rechlicz is in her 11th season at the helm of Milwaukee's program, where she has spent her entire head coaching career. Fans might remember her as Kyle Black when she played for the Wisconsin Badgers from 1998-2002.
Megan Walstad, a veteran on the Panthers' squad, paces MKE in rebounds (7.4 RPG), blocks (1.3 BPG), and minutes (31.3 MPG). Kamy Peppler, a Hortonville, Wisconsin native, is a threat on both ends of the hardwood, leading the Panthers in assists (3.0 APG) and steals (0.9 SPG). Kendall Nead is Milwaukee's leading scorer at 11.2 points per contest.
ABOUT THE JAGUARS
Kate Bruce is in her first season at the helm of the IUPUI program, replacing Austin Parkinson, who was hired at Butler. Bruce was previously at Walsh University, where she was the program's all-time winningest coach and guided the Cavaliers to four consecutive NCAA Tournament berths.
Jazmyn Turner, one of six seasoned veterans, paces IUPUI with 15.0 points per contest. She is second on the team at 5.7 rebounds per game, only trailing Rachel Kent, who averages 6.0 RPG. The Jaguars feature a balanced offensive attack, led by Kent, Turner, and Destiny Perkins. Perkins, who is one of two graduate students, has lofted up a team-leading 199 field goal attempts and 108 three-point attempts. Kent has dropped the most triples with 39, while Turner has knocked down the most field goals (107).
LAST MATCHUP
Sydney Levy scored a season-high 21 points to help Green Bay defeat the Robert Morris Colonials 71-54 on January 22. Bailey Butler added 16 points and five assists, and Callie Genke chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds in just her third start of the season. The third quarter was the turning point of the game. An Alejandra Mastral three-pointer gave RMU its last lead at the 8:13 mark. On the ensuing possession, Genke kicked off a 9-0 Phoenix run with two free throws. Levy converted an and-one opportunity with 3:09 to go to put the Phoenix up 10. They closed the quarter with an eight-point lead, 55-47. GB led by double digits for 9:08 in the final frame and closed the game on a 6-0 run to put it out of reach.
MID-MAJOR MADNESS
The Phoenix is ranked 16th - right behind Youngstown State - in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 poll, released every Tuesday throughout the season. Green Bay has been ranked as high as 12th.
HART AND SOUL
Julia Hartwig has been an exceptional role player for the Phoenix this season. She has appeared in 13 games, making four starts across 15.0 minutes per game. The Janesville, Wisconsin native is best at giving Green Bay's offense a second chance, pacing the squad with 23 offensive rebounds. Hartwig also leads the team with 4.9 rebounds and is an impressive 27-of-50 (54.0 percent) from the field.
LETHAL LEVY
Sydney Levy continued her dominant season against Robert Morris last Sunday, pouring in a season-high 21 points in the 71-54 victory. She also tallied a season-high 37 minutes, shooting 9-of-13 from the field. Overall, the Oshkosh native paces Green Bay in field goals made and attempted (80 of 174, 46.0 percent) while knocking down 36 of 90 triples (40.0 percent). Levy has been just as stellar from the charity stripe, knocking down 15 free throws in 17 attempts (88.2 percent).
SHINING SCHILTZ
Cassie Schiltz has started all 18 games she's appeared in. She tied a career-high in points (18) against Northern Kentucky on January 7. Schiltz has recorded double figures in three of the last five games and has racked up 30 or more minutes in each of the past five. In that same span, the Luxemburg-Casco graduate is shooting 20-of-38 (52.6 percent). Schiltz has also grabbed five or more rebounds in nine games.
OFFENSE ON POINT
Green Bay's offense has improved immensely from last season. Going into Thursday's matchup versus Milwaukee, the Phoenix averages 68.9 points per contest, compared to 61.9 PPG last season. Green Bay ranks:
- 41st in the country in field goal percentage (44.9-percent, leads the HL)
- 12th in the nation in free throw percentage (78.2-percent, leads the HL)
- 30th in the NCAA in scoring margin (+14.5, 2nd in HL)
DEFENSIVE DOMINATION
The Phoenix has been just as good on the other side of the ball. Green Bay's defense has been suffocating for opposing offenses, allowing opponents to score 70 or more points just three times (GB is 2-1 in those games). Green Bay stands out in several statistical categories in the nation, including:
- 8th in field goal percentage (33.9-percent, leads HL)
- 15th in scoring (54.4 points per game, leads HL)
- 30th in three-point field goal percentage (26.8-percent, 2nd in HL)
NAT ATTACK
Natalie McNeal, one of three transfers who joined the Phoenix back in the offseason, has been a solid bench piece for head coach Kevin Borseth. McNeal, a Germantown, Wisconsin native, averages 14.7 minutes per game and shoots well from mid-range, knocking down 29 of 66 shots inside the arc (44.0 percent). She is also second on the team in steals (14).
THE GREAT GENKE
Callie Genke has been exceptional off the bench. Averaging 19.5 minutes per game, Genke tallies 5.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest. The Wrightstown native has reached 21 or more minutes in every game since January 5. Genke posted double figures (11 points versus Robert Morris) for the fourth time this season on Jan. 7.
WIN FROM WITHIN
Thirteen of GB's 15 players come from inside the state border. Only Jenna Guyer (Circle Pines, Minn.) and Tatum Koenig (West Branch, Iowa) are not from Wisconsin. Natalie McNeal, a Germantown native, and Brehna Evans, from De Pere, returned to their cheesehead heritage after transferring to Green Bay this past offseason.
