Green Bay is 67-6 against Wright State and 13-3 versus Northern Kentucky. The Phoenix is 33-5 when facing WSU on the road, winning 17 of the past 18 matchups in Ohio. Meanwhile, GB is 6-2 playing NKU in their house. Green Bay played three consecutive road games against the Norse from 2/1/20 to 2/6/21 due to the COVID season in 2020-21.
ABOUT THE RAIDERS
Kari Hoffman is in her second season with Wright State, posting a 5-32 record going into Friday's matchup. Hoffman, a Wisconsin native and former Green Bay Director of Basketball Operations, was named the Raiders' eighth head coach in May 2021.
WSU enters Friday 1-13, but Bryce Nixon and Emily Chapman are a dangerous for the Raiders. Nixon paces the team with 12.4 points per game, which is good for 10th in the conference. Nixon is also shooting 45.3 percent from downtown, which ranks first in the Horizon League and 26th nationally. Chapman scores the second most on the team, pouring in 8.0 points while pulling down 3.3 rebounds per contest.
ABOUT THE NORSE
The Norse is led by seventh-year head coach Camryn Whitaker, who enters their Thursday contest against Milwaukee with an 86-98 record.
Lindsey Duvall is doing it all for NKU, averaging a double-double (20.0 points and 10.0 rebounds). Duvall was named Horizon League Preseason All-League First Team and was tabbed HL Player of the Week on November 21.
LAST MATCHUP
Green Bay had a complete team effort in an 80-33 beatdown of Detroit Mercy last Saturday. Four players were in double figures for the Phoenix, led by Sydney Levy's 14 points, while Jenna Guyer and Cassie Schiltz added 12 points. The Phoenix steamrolled into the second quarter with a 31-7 lead and kept expanding DMU's deficit, outscoring the Titans 18-6 in the second frame. GB never let their foot off the gas, never allowing DMU to score more than 10 points in any quarter, and the Phoenix had 10 players score points en route to a dominating 80-33 win over Detroit Mercy.
BORSETH IN THE BOOKS
Head coach Kevin Borseth furthered his hall-of-fame career last week by garnering his 550th Division I win against Oakland on December 29. Borseth also collected his 776th win all-time against Detroit Mercy on New Year's Eve, 24 wins from 800 in his 36-year head coaching career. The legendary coach is just 35 wins from 500 in his time at Green Bay.
MONEY MADDY
Sophomore forward Maddy Schreiber has taken a second-year leap, dominating the floor for Green Bay. The Appleton native has started all 13 games this season and is second in scoring on the team (10.3 PPG), only behind Sydney Levy's 10.6 points per contest. Schrieber is effective inside and outside the arc, shooting 56.4 percent from the field and 46-of-68 (67.7 percent) inside the three-point line. Maddy also averages 3.9 rebounds per game, second-most on the team (minimum 10 games played). Schreiber was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field in the win over Chicago State on December 21, marking the eighth time in program history that a player has made eight or more field goals while shooting 100 percent. It was the second time that happened against Chicago State.
LET IT FLY LEVY
Sydney Levy is on a tear through 13 games this season. Levy's play to start the season helped force her into the starting lineup, and she is proving that decision right. Since her first start on December 10 against North Dakota State, Green Bay is 6-0 (five home games, one away). In those six games, she has averaged (per game):
- 27 minutes
- 43.9 percent shooting from the field
- 35.8 percent from beyond the arc
- 4.5 rebounds
- 1.2 assists
- 12.5 points
JAZ IT UP
Jasmine Kondrakiewicz has been a firm foundation for the Phoenix this season. In her third season with Green Bay, she has started two games, providing both a spark off the bench and a solid starting option. Kondrakiewicz is shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 47.4 percent from deep, which are career-bests. The Milwaukee native is also effective from the free throw line, shooting 80.8 percent. Averaging 15 minutes per game, she averages 6.8 points and three rebounds per game.
DYNAMITE DEFENSE
Green Bay is suffocating opposing offenses this season, allowing just 55.0 points per contest. The Phoenix ranks 25th in the nation in scoring defense and first in the Horizon. The Phoenix has held opponents to less than 60 points eight times and less than 70 points 10 times, accumulating eight wins in those 10 matchups. GB surrendered 33 points against Detroit Mercy on December 31, the fewest since giving up just 30 against Cleveland State in the 2019 Horizon League Quarterfinal matchup. Last season, GB ranked 23rd in scoring defense.
CHARITY STRIPE CHANCES
Green Bay ranks 5th in the nation with a 79.9-percent free throw percentage. Last season, the Phoenix ranked ninth in the nation with a 78.6-percent free throw percentage. Bailey Butler, Hailey Oskey, Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, and Cassie Schiltz have all attempted at least 10 free throws and are shooting 80 percent or better.
WIN FROM WITHIN
This season, 13 of the 15 players come from inside the state border. Only Jenna Guyer (Circle Pines, Minn.) and Tatum Koenig (West Branch, Iowa) are not from Wisconsin. Two of this past offseason's transfers returned to their cheesehead heritage (Natalie McNeal, a Germantown native, and Brehna Evans, from De Pere).
