FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Clarence Cummings III poured in a season-high 23 points, but the Green Bay men's basketball team fell to the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons 79-69 on the road Thursday.
The Phoenix (2-14, 1-4) had two others also score in double figures. Cade Meyer had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Ryan Wade helped out with 10 points off the bench.
The Green Bay offense was strong from beyond the arc, making eight threes on 21 attempts. Cummings III hit three treys for the Phoenix in the contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay started out on the front foot, jumping out to a 7-2 lead after a three pointer from Cummings III with 17:15 left in the half. The Mastodons responded with an 11-4 run of their own to take a 13-11 lead with 11:48 left. Both teams traded baskets until the 4:58 mark, when Purdue Fort Wayne finished the half on a 15-8 run to take a 42-35 lead into the halftime break.
Purdue Fort Wayne extended its lead at the start of the second half, starting the frame on a 16-6 run to take a 58-41 lead with 14:53 to go. GB showed life late in the game, bringing the game back to within double digits thanks to eight points apiece from Wade and Cummings III in the game's final eight minutes. However, that wasn't enough as the Mastodons secured the 79-69 win.

» Meyer's double-double is the first of his career.
» Green Bay shot well from the floor at 51.9 percent (27-for-52) compared to 45.9 percent (28-for-61) for PFW.
» Cummings III played a season-high 37 minutes in the loss.
» PFW out-rebounded the Phoenix 37-25.
» The Mastodons won the turnover battle (13-9) and scored more points in the paint (38-30).
» Jarred Godfrey led the way for PFW with 23 points and five rebounds.
» There were six ties and six lead changes in Thursday's game.

GB has one final road game before returning home next weekend. The Phoenix will close out this weekend on Saturday at Cleveland State. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
