Kapila Tallies First Career Goal in Tie Against Robert Morris

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay men's soccer battled through blustery conditions for a 1-1 draw against Robert Morris Saturday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium.

Green Bay and RMU moved to 4-3-5 overall and 2-2-2 in Horizon action with the tie after entering the contest with the same record (4-3-4, 2-2-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Colonials wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the opening frame. Not long after a foul was committed by Tommy Coughlin, John Paul Mbuthia buried his third goal of the 2023 campaign. RMU was able to capitalize off a free kick before the ball was deflected multiple times just outside the box. GB responded quickly, tying the game in the 12th minute off the head of Rohin Kapila, who scored his first career goal. Jake Parish set the initial play up on a corner kick. Andrew Paolucci headed the ball off the crossbar, bounced twice, and came down to meet Kapila, who punched it in to tie the game at one apiece. Each team had a goal going into halftime.

Each team tallied three shots in the first 17:06 of the second half, but the score remained tied. Parish and Luca Contestabile put their shots on goal but forced a save by RMU goalkeeper Kieran Gorgenyi. Despite late attempts by the Colonials to take the lead, Tobias Jahn and the GB defense kept them out of the goal to result in a 1-1 tie.

GAME NOTES

  • Green Bay outshot RMU 14-8, while each squad had five shots on goal.
  • Each goalkeeper tallied four saves.
  • Andrew Paolucci and Parish paced GB with three shots.
