MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team ended the 2023 campaign on Thursday with a 0-4 loss to in-state rival Milwaukee.
Green Bay finished 0-11-5 overall and 0-7-3 in the Horizon League, while Milwaukee claimed the top seed in the conference tournament.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the third minute on a Kristina Karlof goal. MKE outshot GB 10-1 in the first 24:29. Zoey Pagels was responsible for the only shot on goal for the Phoenix, but Kendall Edwards made a save towards the bottom left corner. Later, in the 35th minute, Lainey Higgins buried a goal to make it 2-0. The score would remain 2-0 going into halftime.
Milwaukee scored quickly to open the second frame when Kat Van Booven scored to extend the Panthers' lead to 3-0. Higgins struck again not long after that, making it 4-0 after Karlof recorded her third assist. Pagels recorded several more shots, but the effort wasn't enough in the 0-4 loss.
GAME NOTES
- Milwaukee outshot Green Bay 34-6 overall and 14-2 on goal.
- Phoenix goalkeeper Mallorie Benhart collected 10 saves.
- The Panthers had 14 corner kicks to GB's 0.
