Phoenix Captures No. 2 Seed, Chancellor's Cup With Victory Over Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – For the first time since 2019, the Chancellor's Cup is back in Titletown! The Green Bay men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Panthers on Wednesday evening. GB also captured the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the Horizon League Championships, which begins with quarterfinal action Sunday afternoon.

The win improved Green Bay's record to 8-3-5 overall and 5-2-2 in Horizon play, while the Panthers finished the 2023 campaign with a 4-9-4 overall record and a 2-5-2 record in the HL.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Each team tallied a shot before Milwaukee's Paul Medina notched the game's first score in the 10th minute on an assist from Bienvenu Djunga. GB got the ball rolling on offense beginning in the 14th minute when Josh Johansen cracked a shot. Just moments later, Jake Parish attempted a cross pass, but the ball found the bottom back right corner of the net, tying the game at one apiece. The Phoenix was able to take the lead in the 29th minute. Tobias Jahn boomed a goal kick past midfield that was headed by Myles Sophanavong. The ball caromed right to Chris Album, who snuck the ball past Panther goalkeeper Daniel Ibarra for his team-leading eighth goal of the season. Album has done all of his damage in just 11 games this season. Album goal made the difference in the first half, sending GB to the locker room up one.

Green Bay started the second half on a good note, extending the lead to 3-1 in the 52nd minute on a Rohin Kapila goal. Parish set Kapila up for his second goal of the season. The Panthers would not let up, cashing in another score in the 59th minute. Asher Ozuzu and Djunga ripped off shots on goal before Medina cashed in his second score of the contest. Each squad went shot-for-shot before Myles Sophanavong buried a late second-half goal to put the game away in the 78th minute. Abdu Regassa gave one last effort for the Panthers, recording two shots on goal, but Green Bay escaped the Cream City with a 4-2 win.
