INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Horizon League unveiled the 2023 #HLVB awards on Thursday. Awards were voted on by the League's head coaches. Hannah Vanden Berg and Tiffany Paalman earned All-League First Team selections while Calli Gentry earned the Horizon League Sportsmanship Award.
Green Bay had a great 2023 season, finishing 15-15 overall and 13-5 in HL play. The conference record was good enough for a second-place Horizon League finish and a HL Championship bye into the semifinals. GB will play against an opponent TBD on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 5 p.m. CT.
TIFFANY PAALMAN – FIRST TEAM ALL-HORIZON LEAGUE
Tiffany Paalman's season has been one to remember after returning from a torn ACL last season. Paalman finished third on the team with 306 kills, averaging 2.71 per set, and finished second in blocks with 91 total, and 0.81 blocks per set. Paalman also led the Phoenix in hitting percentage at .286, finishing eighth in the Horizon League.
HANNAH VANDEN BERG – FIRST TEAM ALL-HORIZON LEAGUE
Hannah Vanden Berg was a leader for the Phoenix in many ways this season. The Little Chute, Wis., native led the team and finished sixth in the HL with 375 kills, 3.23. per set. Vanden Berg also led the league in aces per set, averaging 0.47. She also racked up the second-most points in the HL, averaging 3.97 per set.
