GREEN BAY, Wis. – The November 29 edition of the Phoenix Weekly presented by Capital Credit Union is back! Both basketball teams will open their Horizon League seasons this week, while Swim & Dive will compete at the Rochester Invitational tomorrow through Saturday.
WEEK IN REVIEW
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Green Bay men's basketball had a back-to-back early last week, beginning with a 54-53 overtime win against the Montana State Bobcats before falling to the UC Riverside Highlanders 74-68. The Phoenix picked up their first win at the Resch Center of their 2023-24 season, defeating St. Thomas 64-51 on Saturday. Elijah Jones led the Phoenix with 12 points and five rebounds. Marcus Hall had 10 points, also finishing with five rebounds and one block.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Phoenix women's basketball team traveled to Cancun, Mexico to compete in the Cancun Challenge, taking on UMass, Maryland, and #23 Washington State. GB opened the week by beating UMass 85-52, falling to Maryland 59-68, and then upsetting #23 ranked Washington State. Green Bay was led by Cassie Schiltz, who had a season-high 16 points, shooting 5-8 from the floor and 2-4 from three. Natalie McNeal added 14 points and six rebounds. Bailey Butler led Green Bay with four blocks. The win over Washington State is the second win over an AP top-25 opponent this season.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Green Bay men's basketball team travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana for their opening Horizon League game, squaring off against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons tonight. GB will then return home for the Battle of I-43 against the Milwaukee Panthers on Saturday at the Resch Center. Purdue Fort Wayne is led by Rasheed Bello, averaging 16 points per game. Quinton Morton-Robertson and Anthony Roberts are also averaging 13.7 points per game. BJ Freeman leads Milwaukee, pouring in 19.5 points per game. Noah Reynolds leads Green Bay and is fourth in the HL, averaging 17.7 points per game and 5.0 assists per game. Elijah Jones leads the Phoenix in rebounds per game, averaging 7.7.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Green Bay women's basketball travels to Milwaukee to take on the Panthers on Thursday for their opening Horizon League matchup. Then, the Phoenix will head to Chicago, Illinois, to face off with DePaul. Kendall Nead leads Milwaukee, averaging 19.7 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Anaya Peoples leads DePaul, averaging 21.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.
Green Bay spreads out the scoring, with four players averaging near double figures. Callie Genke leads the way (10.8 ppg), followed by Cassie Schiltz (10.2 ppg), Natalie McNeal (9.7 ppg), and Maddy Schreiber (9.7 ppg).
SWIM AND DIVE
Green Bay men's and women's Swim and Dive travel to Rochester, Minnesota, to compete in the Rochester Invitational from Thursday, Nov. 30 through Saturday, Dec. 2. In the St. Norbert Dual Meet, Green Bay tallied numerous first-place finishes, thanks to solid performances from
McKenna Metropulos,
Alexa Kelly, and
Max Kasal.
Annie Frederickson and
Sam Morris highlighted the diving portion of the meet.
