Phoenix Basketball Drops Road Contest at SIUE

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Wednesday night, the Green Bay men's basketball team hit the road for nonconference showdown with SIUE. The Phoenix battled the entire night, but fell 78-69.

The Phoenix (4-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Noah Reynolds, who had 20 points and four rebounds. Reynolds has now eclipsed the 20-point mark three times this season. Elijah Jones tacked on 11 points and two steals, and Foster Wonders chipped in as well with 11 points off of the bench. Wonders has scored in double figures in back-to-back games.

The Cougars were led by an efficient 23-point performance from Ray'Sean Taylor and 18 points and five rebounds from Damarco Minor.

The Green Bay offense was productive on the night, shooting 47.3 percent (26-of-55) from the floor and 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from three, but couldn't overcome a large free throw discrepancy. The Phoenix finished the night 8-of-14 from the stripe, while SIUE sent 28-of-39.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 9-4, Green Bay went on a 5-0 run with 15:56 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Reynolds, to tie the game at nine. SIUE responded with their own 5-0 burst to give them a 14-9 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the half. The Phoenix would temporarily cut into the lead, but the Cougars led 33-27 going into the locker room at halftime.

The hosts started the second half hot, hitting five of their first seven shots and extending their lead to 46-30 with 15:49 left to go in the game. Green Bay scratched and clawed down the stretch to make it a game late, but GB was never able to cut the lead to lower than eight as the Cougars would eventually take the contest 78-69.
