INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Anticipation is building for spring as the Horizon League has announced the 2023 golf preseason poll Thursday afternoon.
The Green Bay men were picked to finish eighth, while the women were tabbed to finish third.
GB features four graduates on the women's side, Ashley Kulka, Isabelle Maleki, Courtney Matschke, and Lauren Shorter. Only three underclassmen are on the roster: Caylie Kotlowski (sophomore), Grace Welch (sophomore), and Ellie Frisch (freshman).
Last season, the women dominated, finishing no worse than third in seven of their 10 invites. Green Bay finished the year with three first-place finishes and completed the season with a second-place outing at the Horizon League Championships. The Green Bay women started the 2022-23 campaign by finishing top four in three of their five contests in the fall of 2022.
On the men's side, Green Bay returns four student-athletes, including Joe Forsting, Zak Kulka, Austin Schnell, and Ryan Schuelke. Over the offseason, the Phoenix welcomed Caden Jacobsen, Trent Meyer, Logan Pechinski, and Max Reis to the squad.
A third-place finish at the Valparaiso Fall Invite was a bright spot in a challenging season for the GB men last year.
The Green Bay women will begin their 2023 spring campaign on March 27 at the NKU Invitational, while the men start the spring on the same weekend at the Butler Spring Invitational. The Horizon League Championships are scheduled for April 23-25 at the Mission Inn in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida.
