Green Bay Cruises to 70-50 Victory Over Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Make it five wins in a row for the Green Bay women's basketball team after they defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 70-50 on the road Sunday.

The Phoenix (19-4, 12-2 HL) coasted thanks to four players reaching double figures. Bailey Butler tied her career-high in points (16) to pace GB while racking up a career-high nine assists. Sydney Levy and Jasmine Kondrakiewicz chipped in with 14 apiece, while Cassie Schiltz tacked on 10.

Alexis Johnson and Brooke Quarels-Daniels led the way for Oakland (11-12, 6-8 HL) with 10 points each. The duo was 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) from the field.

Green Bay collected their ninth road win of the season, tied for the second-most road victories in the past nine seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay came out of the gates hot, ripping off a 7-0 run in the first two minutes of the contest, forcing an early Oakland timeout. The Golden Grizzlies answered well and eventually pulled to within five at 13-8 after Quarels-Daniels dropped in a bucket. The Phoenix started to pull away in the quarter's final minutes, with Butler dropping in four straight points, helping GB take a 19-10 advantage into the second quarter.

GB kept its foot on the gas offensively in the second frame, scoring 22 points. Five different Phoenix scored, including Kondrakiewicz, who got in on the action by scoring seven consecutive points, helping the Phoenix go up by two touchdowns at 28-14 with 7:22 left in the frame. Jenna Guyer, Tatum Koenig, and Brooklyn Blackburn gave a spark off the bench and propelled Green Bay to a comfortable 41-28 halftime lead.

Following intermission, Green Bay stiffened defensively after allowing 18 points in the second quarter, surrendering just 11 in the third period. The Phoenix forced seven of Oakland's 14 turnovers in the stanza while totaling two blocks and three steals. GB led by as much as 21 in the third quarter and took a sizeable 19-point advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Phoenix shot 5-of-12 in the final frame but scored only 12 points, the lowest total of any quarter in the game. Despite that, GB led by no fewer than 20 in the fourth quarter, cruising to a 70-50 victory.
