Phoenix Offense Struggles in Day Two of MTSU Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – It was a tough day in Tennessee for the Green Bay softball team, as the team fell 9-0 to Southern Illinois and 10-0 to Appalachian State Saturday morning.

GAME 1 | Southern Illinois 9, Green Bay 0 
Southern Illinois took control of the game immediately, exploding for seven runs in the first inning. They added two more in the bottom of the second and blanked the Phoenix offense the rest of the way to secure the 9-0 win after five innings.

Brittany Baneck (6-4) started on the bump for GB and took the loss. Viviana Guzman threw 2.2 innings of two run ball and Kelly Greene also made an appearance in the circle, recording an out for GB.

Green Bay finished the game with two hits, both coming off the bat of Tiffany Giese. Jadin Justman, Samantha Saloun, and Paige Hanson drew walks off of Salukis' pitching.

GAME NOTES
» Green Bay left five runners on base.
» Southern Illinois outhit GB 9-2.
» Giese's triple was the lone extra-base hit for Green Bay.
» The Salukis' Elliott Stinson was strong in the circle, pitching five scoreless innings. 

GAME 2 | Appalachian State 10, Green Bay 0
Green Bay's second game of the day was similar to the first. Appalachian State tacked on 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning and blanked the GB offense to secure the five-inning victory.

Paeton Kringel (0-3) started the game for GB and was relieved by Kelly Greene who threw 3.1 scoreless innings. Greene allowed just one hit in the appearance.

Giese and Saloun had the lone hits for GB, with both finishing the game 1-for-2.

GAME NOTES
» The Mountaineers outhit GB 8-2.
» GB left three runners on base.
» Sejas Neas pitched five scoreless innings for Appalachian State.

UP NEXT
Green Bay will close out the MTSU Invitational tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CT against Appalachian State. Following, the Phoenix will make stops at Austin Peay on Monday and Lipscomb on Wednesday before opening Horizon League play at Northern Kentucky on Friday.
