GREEN BAY, Wis. – The first invites of the spring season are in the books for Green Bay men's and women's golf. After a solid Monday, the Phoenix was able to finish on a strong note Tuesday afternoon at the NKU Invitational - The Julie (women) and Butler Spring Invitational (men).
Ashley Kulka paced the women on day two by stroking a 72 (+1) – the same number she posted in round one – for a tie in third overall. Isabelle Maleki, after notching a 74 in round one, also did the same in round two, scoring a three-over-par to tie for a ninth-place finish. Caylie Kotlowski came on strong in Tuesday's action, recording a 72 (+1) after tallying a 77 (+6) on day one. Her performance earned her an 11th-place finish. Courtney Matschke stayed consistent, scoring a 76 (+5) after posting a 75 (+5) on Monday. Ellie Frisch rounded out the squad by totaling 158 strokes through both rounds (+16). Overall, the women completed the NKU Invitational with four of five players finishing in the top 14 out of 73.
"I'm just super proud," said head coach Lee Reinke. "Most of the teams we were competing against have already played several tournaments, and this was the first one for us [of the spring]. To earn the victory is pretty sweet."
Zak Kulka led the way for the men Tuesday, posting a 78 (+8) in the third round. He finished 47th overall out of 83. Austin Schnell also recorded a 78, completing the tournament in 56th place. Joe Forsting stroked a 74 (+4) after notching a 77 in round one and a 74 in round two. Trent Meyer finished the invite with a score of 227 (+17), while Max Reis recorded a score of 231 (+21).
