Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Album Scores in Draw at Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Green Bay men's soccer held a lead nearly the entire game Saturday night at Cleveland State, but the Vikings scored late, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

With the tie, Green Bay moved to 3-2-3 overall and 1-1-1 in conference play. CSU moved to 1-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in Horizon League action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a sluggish start for both squads. Only three shots were recorded in the first 27 minutes of play, all from the Vikings. Josh Davis came close to punching one in during the 21st minute, but GB goalkeeper Tobias Jahn tallied his first save of the evening to keep it scoreless. Josh Johansen cracked a shot on goal in the 28th minute, but CSU's goalkeeper, Omeed Naeemy, made the save. The Vikings would fire three more shots, including two on goal in the final 12:14 of the frame, but Jahn kept them off the scoreboard, keeping the game tied 0-0 going into halftime.

Out of the break, Green Bay broke the scoreless tie in the 49th minute with a goal from Chris Album, who notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season on an assist from So Nishikawa. Niklas Nannt tried to answer right after the ensuing kickoff, but it bounced off the crossbar and out of play. The Phoenix couldn't convert on a corner kick opportunity in the 62nd minute, and Hesron Barry was stopped short on another shot on goal in the 70th minute. Cleveland State went nearly 40 minutes without a shot until Pablo Kawecki cashed in during the 87th minute, tying the game 1-1. The late score spoiled a solid defensive outing for the Phoenix, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

GAME NOTES

  • After being outshot 6-1 in the opening half, Green Bay held CSU to just two shots in the second half.
  • GB had four corner kicks to CSU's three.
  • Green Bay put five shots on goal compared to the Vikings' four.
  • A red card was handed to Green Bay's Hesron Barry and CSU's Daniel Lacerda in the 90th minute.
