GREEN BAY, WI --The Green Bay volleyball team beat the Oakland Golden Grizzlies 3-1 (25-15, 26-28, 25-14, 25-19) Saturday at home at the Kress Events Center. Redshirt-junior Emma Best finished with a career-high 19 kills to lead the Phoenix.Â
The win improved the Phoenix's record to 9-12 overall and 6-3 in Horizon action.
The Phoenix were led by a double-double from Best, who registered 19 kills and 13 digs on the day. Sophomore Katie Schulz also added 19 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Abby Gardner chipped in for with 16 digs to go with five blocks from Ellie Kurpeikis.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix took control of the set-one lead at 4-3 and never trailed to win 25-15. Green Bay opened up its biggest lead, 10 points, to close out the set, totaling 16 kills in the process.
SET 2 | Green Bay fell in the second set 28-26 to even the match 1-1. The Phoenix couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied 10 times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.
SET 3 | Green Bay put the second-set loss behind and took a 2-1 match lead with a victory in the third set. The Phoenix grabbed the set 25-14. Green Bay took the lead for good at 12-11 in a set that showcased two lead changes before the Phoenix took over the lead. The Green Bay offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Green Bay kept the momentum going, closing out the match with a 25-19 set-four victory. A strong performance on the attacking end led the Phoenix to victory in the set. Green Bay registered a .359 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set win. The Phoenix ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza.

The Phoenix will hit the road this weekend to face one of the top teams in the Horizon League, Wright State, on Friday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
