GREEN BAY, Wis. – Welcome back to another fall edition of Phoenix Weekly, presented by Capital Credit Union! It's another busy week for Green Bay Athletics, highlighted by women's basketball hosting DePaul tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
 
WEEK IN REVIEW
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Phoenix went 2-1 this past week, beating Western Illinois last Wednesday, falling on Saturday at Providence, and winning against SIUE last night 82-57. Anthony Roy dominated against SIUE, totaling 34 points to help lead Green Bay while also contributing with a team-high six rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Marcus Hall and Foster Wonders were the other two Phoenix to finish in double figures, with 14 for Hall and 10 for Wonders.
 
Green Bay played well on both sides of the ball, knocking down 47.1-percent from the floor and 37.0-percent from three while holding SIUE to 33.9-percent shooting from the floor and 22.6-percent shooting from deep.
 
MEN'S SOCCER
Green Bay men's soccer fell 2-0 to No. 1 seeded Oakland in the Horizon League Semifinals. GB finished the 2024 campaign with an 11-7-2 record, recording the most wins in a single season since 2011.  
 
SWIM & DIVE
The Phoenix swimming and diving team had a strong showing at the Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center, taking down St. Norbert. Green Bay defeated the Green Knights 163-67 (men) and 183-57 (women) on Friday night.
 
MEN'S EVENTS
Sam Morris won the one and three-meter dives with scores of 187.95 and 226.15. Max Kasal finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.81. Eli Zimmerman won the 100-yard butterfly by over one second finishing in 52.27.
 
WOMEN'S EVENTS
Cora Singleton finished first in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.94. Esther Oswald won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.70. Hannah Mellock led the way in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:21.76.
 
VOLLEYBALL
Green Bay volleyball won both matches against Robert Morris last weekend. On Friday, the Phoenix defeated RMU in three sets (25-20, 25-18, 25-21). Cora Behnke finished with 18 kills to lead the GB offense. Abby Gardner had 18 digs and Calli Gentry finished with 40 assists.
On Saturday, the Phoenix won in four sets (25-23, 25-22, 24-26, 25-14). Cora Behnke and Katie Schulz each had 16 kills to lead the Phoenix offense. Olivia Neumann also had eight blocks to lead the GB defense. Gentry finished the day with 50 assists, nine digs, and three aces.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Green Bay women's basketball won two road games in a row, taking down UIC and North Dakota in a pair of close contests.
 
Maddy Schreiber was sensational for the Phoenix against UIC, racking up 25 points, which tied for most among all players with UIC's Makiyah Williams. Natalie McNeal tallied 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Jenna Guyer scored 11 off the bench. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz tacked on another 10 points.
 
Schreiber once again led Green Bay offensively with 13 points against North Dakota, but it was Bailey Butler who had ice in her veins on Sunday afternoon. The South Wayne, Wis., native drilled a three before finishing a layup on the ensuing possession, giving GB a 64-60 advantage with 18 seconds left in regulation. McNeal went to the charity stripe in the final moments and splashed a pair of free throws, sealing the game for Green Bay's second straight win.
 
A LOOK AHEAD
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Green Bay men's basketball is on the road for their next two matchups, traveling to Evansville for a game at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 followed up by Ohio State on Monday, Nov. 25.
Green Bay is 2-3 heading into its game with Evansville. Anthony Roy is third in the nation, averaging 27.4 points per game. Marcus Hall is averaging 15.8 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game.
 
VOLLEYBALL
Green Bay volleyball travels to Dayton, Ohio to compete in the Horizon League Championship this weekend. The No. 4 seeded Phoenix will take on the No. 5 seeded Purdue Fort Wayne in the Horizon League Quarterfinals on Friday at 5 p.m. CT.
 
The Mastodons are led by Head Coach Steve Florio. Florio is in his 11th season at the helm of Purdue Fort Wayne and has a career record of 135-195. This is the first time PFW has made the Horizon League Tournament since the shortened 2020-21 season. Panna Ratkai leads all of the Horizon League in kills per set at 4.69 and total kills with 496. Taya Haffner is sixth in assists averaging 7.12 per set. LonDynn Betts places sixth in the HL averaging 4.78 digs per set.
Green Bay is 18-31 in postseason play all-time, and 17-19 in Horizon League Tournament games. However, none have come against Purdue Fort Wayne. Under Abbey Sutherland, the Phoenix is 5-4 in the HL Tournament, including a Horizon League Championship win in 2018, and a Championship appearance in 2023.
 
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Green Bay women's basketball will host the DePaul Blue Demons on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. Jorie Allen is DePaul's leading scorer this season, averaging 19.8 points per game. The Blue Demons are 2-2 on the year.
 
Thursday is Housing Showdown Night, and a teddy bear toss will take place at halftime before a postgame poster signing.
 
SWIM & DIVE
The Phoenix swim & dive team travels across the border to St. Thomas for an Invite against St. Thomas on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.
