11 different players score for Green Bay

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - A huge third quarter propelled the Green Bay women's basketball team to its largest win of the season, an 86-53 thrashing of in-state rival Milwaukee.

The Phoenix (7-4, 2-1) was paced by Maddy Schreiber, who led all players with 20 points. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz chipped in with 16. Natalie McNeal returned after missing the last two games, recording 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting in just 11 minutes.

Milwaukee (3-9, 0-3 HL) was led by Kacee Baumhower's 14 points. She was the only Panther to reach double figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Green Bay jumped out to a quick 9-3 lead, capped by a Maren Westin jumper with 5:45 to go in quarter number one. Baumhower drilled a three to help MKE knot the game at 9-9 just a minute and a half later. It was a back-and-forth battle for the final 4:05 of the period, but a Cassie Schiltz three helped give GB an 18-15 lead going into the second stanza. Green Bay tried to pull away in the frame, but Milwaukee stayed within arm's length. GB's largest lead in the second quarter was six points, which occurred five separate times. Westin helped cap a brief 4-0 run that put the Phoenix up 38-32 going into halftime.

The floodgates opened once the teams returned from the locker room. Green Bay opened with a 7-0 run in the first 2:18 of the third quarter, capped by a McNeal tip-in, extending the lead to 45-32. Over the next three minutes, GB blew the game open, ballooning the lead to 21 on a Schreiber three to make it 58-37 with 4:49 remaining in the third period. The Phoenix racked up 31 points in the third quarter, by far the most in a single period in any game this season. Green Bay was on cruise control the rest of the game, leading by at least 31 points for the final 8:15 of the fourth quarter, getting back in the win column with an 86-53 victory over Milwaukee.
