ABOUT THE JAGUARS
IU Indy is off to a slow start this season. After winning the season opener against Evansville, the Jags have dropped six consecutive, including their most recent matchup last Wednesday at Eastern Illinois. Despite recent struggles, Shania Nichols-Vannett has been a bright spot for IU Indy. The sophomore guard paces the Jaguars in points (11.9), assists (1.9), and minutes (27.3). Alexa Hocevar has crashed the boards at the highest rate, with No. 4 grabbing 4.3 RPG. Head coach Kate Bruce is in her third season with the Jaguars, having posted a 25-42 record entering Wednesday night's contest.
1. HONEY WE'RE HOME!
After three games at the Puerto Rico Shootout, Green Bay returns home tonight for the Horizon League opener against IU Indianapolis, formerly known as IUPUI. GB is 1-1 this year at the Kress Center but has dominated at home over the years, posting a 235-34 record at home all-time (87.4 win percentage).
2. 450 ON THE HORIZON
A win over IU Indy on Wednesday night would give the Phoenix 450 wins all-time between the program's time in the MCC and Horizon League. That is by far the most in the conference, with Milwaukee (275) and Detroit Mercy (268) trailing the Phoenix. Â Green Bay is also just nine victories shy from it's 1,100th win since the program's inception in 1973.
3. COUNT ON CALLIE
Callie Genke has had a sensational start to the 2024-25 campaign. No. 12 has been a remarkable 24-for-47 (51.1 percent) overall while drilling 16 of 32 three-point field goal attempts (50 percent). Genke is also 11-of-14 from the free-throw line (78.6 percent). Callie will officially play her 100th career game when she enters the contest Wednesday evening.
4. 1,000 REASONS
Natalie McNeal has been reliable to begin her 2024-25 campaign. No. 11 has made 43 of 96 field goals so far (44.8 percent). McNeal has been one of Green Bay's best rebounders as well, averaging 4.9 per game, only trailing
Jasmine Kondrakiewicz (6.1 RPG). McNeal scored her 1,000th career point on a fadeaway mid-range shot against Virginia on Thanksgiving Day last Thursday.
5. ALL ABOUT ACADEMICS
The Phoenix has found success on and off the hardwood in it's rich history. Last season,
Natalie McNeal and
Bailey Butler were named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team. In total, five different Phoenix have made the All-Academic Team since the start of the decade.
