Green Bay Throttles IU Indy in Horizon League Opener

Six different Phoenix scored in the first quarter; five Phoenix reach double figures

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay women's basketball team opened up Horizon League play in style with a 78-56 thrashing of IU Indianapolis Wednesday night at the Kress Center. GB's 78 points are the most scored so far this season and the team has now won six of its last eight.

The Phoenix (6-3, 1-0 HL) had five players score in double figures, the most in any game this season. Maddy Schreiber led the way with 16 points and six rebounds, while Maren Westin tied her career-high with 13 points off the bench. Cassie Schiltz chipped in with 12 to tie her season-high.

IU Indy (1-7, 0-1 HL) was paced by Jada Patton's 15 points. Faith Stinson and Alexa Hocevar each added a dozen. The Jaguars dropped their seventh consecutive game with the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay blasted off to a 22-3 lead after the first quarter. Six different Phoenix scored as Westin scored five and Schiltz tallied six points. IU Indy was in a freezer to begin the contest, shooting 0-for-13 overall. All three points for the Jaguars came off of free throw attempts. IU Indy heated up in the second frame, as GB's lead was trimmed to as little as 11 points in the stanza. The Phoenix remained hot, however, shooting 7-of-12 as a team, and went into the halftime break leading comfortably, 42-24.

The Green and White put the pedal to the metal in the second half, blowing up the lead back to 31 after Miah Meyer dazzled with an and-one to make it 63-32 with 2:29 remaining in the third period. GB led by no less than 22 in the final quarter en route to a fashionable 78-56 victory over IU Indy to begin Horizon League action.

GAME NOTES
» Meyer finished with a season-high 10 points.
» Meghan Schultz tallied her first career points in the fourth quarter.
» Jenna Guyer had a career-high seven rebounds.
» Green Bay recorded its best single-game field goal percentage (51.9 percent).
» GB tallied its most assists in a single game this season with 21.
» The Phoenix grabbed 40 rebounds, the most in a contest this season.
» Bailey Butler tied her season-high in assists with six.
