ABOUT THE COLONIALS
Interim Head Coach Scott Schneider takes over the reins after the recent resignation of Charlie Buscaglia. Thursday's contest will be Schneider's first game ever in the HC role, having spent previous stops as an assistant coach or associate head coach. Simone Morris guides the Colonials with 10.3 points per game, while Danielle Vuletich paces RMU in rebounds with 6.7 RPG.
ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Acting Head Coach John Nicolas, also in his first season, has the Penguins at 11-14 entering their Wednesday evening contest at Wright State. The Penguins will attempt to win its fourth-consecutive game tonight against the Raiders. Emily Saunders is dangerous for YSU, leading the team in points (11.8 PPG) and rebounds (6.4 RPG).
CHOOSE YOUR PLAYER (OF THE WEEK)
For the third time this season, Green Bay has had a player named Player of the Week.
Cassie Schiltz won the accolade on January 2 before
Jasmine Kondrakiewicz took the award home on January 29.
Natalie McNeal was named Player of the Week on Monday, the first of her career with the Phoenix. McNeal ranks in the top five in the conference in several categories, including points per game (7th), rebounds per game (5th), and field goal percentage (4th).
BORSETH IN THE BOOKS (AGAIN)
Head Coach
Kevin Borseth etched history into the record books again last Thursday night. He collected his 500th win as the Head Coach of the Phoenix with a victory over Northern Kentucky and is now just 12 victories from tallying his 600th win as a Division I Head Coach. The legendary HC, who ranks 16th all-time in NCAA Division I women's basketball wins, has the most wins in program history, having surpassed Carol Hammerle's 456 victories early last season.
STATE OF THE TEAM
The Phoenix once again boast a roster of mostly homegrown talent. Of the 13 players on the roster, 10 are from the Dairyland. Only Westin (Becker, Minn.), Lahti (Pine City, Minn.), and
Jenna Guyer (Circle Pines, Minn.) are not from Wisconsin. Green Bay is among rare air regarding the construction of its roster, with the University of North Texas and Lamar University (also in Texas) having 10 players on
their squad from Texas. Info was gathered from a question submitted to the NCAA.
WE THE BEST
As of February 12, Green Bay ranks in the top 50 in the country in several statistical categories, including the following:
• Scoring Defense (51.5 PPG, 34th)
• Scoring Margin (+17.5, 34th)
• Winning Percentage (100.0, 1st)
• Assists per Game (19.5, 18th)
• Turnover Margin (7.50, 31st)
• Turnovers per Game (11.5, 48th)
• Fouls per Game (10.5, 11th)
• Rebounds (Offensive) Per Game (16.0, 22nd)
• Assist-to-turnover ratio (1.70, 15th)
JAS IN THE JUNGLE
'Jas' currently paces GB in blocks with 18, averaging just over half a rejection per contest. Kondrakiewicz dropped 7 points and 9 rebounds vs IUPUI. She dropped 12 points, had 6 rebounds during the Phoenix win against NKU. An incredible week with 20 more points against Wright State, and her performances earned her the first Player of the Week award of her career two weeks ago. In Green Bay's last game
against IUPUI, Kondrakiewicz recorded her fourth-career double-double with a career-high in points (21) and 12 rebounds.
CASSIE CRASHING THE BOARDS
Junior guard
Cassie Schiltz has been dominant from the field this season, shooting 45.0 percent overall, 40.0 percent from beyond the arc, and 92.7 percent from the charity stripe. Schiltz, who garnered her first Horizon League Player of the Week honor at the beginning of January, also racked up 11 points, five rebounds in GB's win vs IUPUI this past weekend. Schiltz tallied a career-high 27 points in the win over
Cleveland State on December 30.
DOING A SUPER(LATIVE) JOB
GB has had unparalleled success during this season. Here's a breakdown of some interesting superlatives prior to Thursday's game versus Robert Morris:
• There has been only one game that finished within three points.
• GB is 11-2 versus winning teams.
• Four of GB's five losses are against teams that are at or below .500.
• The Phoenix is 15-1 when scoring 70+ points.
• Green Bay has recorded a higher field goal percentage than its opponents 19 times, reigning victorious in all 19 contests.
• GB is 19-1 when leading at the half.
• Green Bay is 16-0 when surrendering less than 60 points.
• The Phoenix has held all but two opponents (Oakland on Jan. 20) and (Cleveland State on Feb. 3) to less than 50-percent shooting.
SHINING SCHREIBER
Maddy Schreiber has been a big part of Green Bay's success this season, scoring at least 12 points in 18 of GB's 23 contests. In those 18 games, GB's record is 14-4. She chipped in with 12 points in the upset win over then No. 23-ranked Washington State, 14 points in the upset victory over then No. 22-ranked Creighton, and poured in a career-high 23 points in the win over Milwaukee on November 30. Maddy lead
the team in scoring with 16 points in the Phoenix win against Northern Kentucky last Saturday.
TAKING NOTE
When Green Bay wins this season, they dominate. The Phoenix ranks 24th in scoring margin, winning by an average of 16.3 points per game. Green Bay is also 18-2 in games where the final score was decided by 11 or more points. GB's close defeat to Oakland was the first game that Green Bay has had finish within 10 points since the beginning of the team's 10-game win streak, a 64-56 win over UIC in mid-
December. The Phoenix recorded its first 10+-game win streak since the program ripped off 13 victories in a row from January 22-March 6, 2023 last season with the win over Detroit Mercy a couple of weeks ago.
NAT ATTACK
Natalie McNeal has crashed the boards at a high rate this season, pacing the squad with 6.9 rebounds per game. The fourth-year player from Germantown, Wisconsin is in her second season as a Phoenix after spending her first two collegiate years with Saint Louis. Her 6.9 RPG is currently on pace for a career-high. McNeal was sensational in the victory over IUPUI, posting her sixth career double-double,
scoring 26 points while racking up 15 rebounds. Two days earlier, she tied her career-high in rebounds with 16. McNeal has grabbed 16 rebounds in her career three times, all with the Phoenix.
WELCOME TO TITLETOWN
The Phoenix boasts a trio of true freshmen (
Maren Westin,Â
Sophie Lahti, andÂ
Meghan Schultz) and one transfer (
Natalie Andersen, IUPUI). Westin and Andersen are guards, while Lahti and Schultz bring height to the forward position. Schultz stands at six feet, four inches, surpassingÂ
Kendall Renard as the tallest player on the team. The Phoenix once again boast a roster of mostly homegrown talent. Of the 13 players on the roster, 10 are from the dairyland. Only Westin (Becker, Minn.), Lahti (Pine City, Minn.), andÂ
Jenna Guyer (Circle Pines, Minn.) are not from Wisconsin.
