David Douglas Jr. Named Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year Finalist

BOSTON, Mass. – Green Bay guard David Douglas Jr. was named a finalist for the 2023-24 Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year award. The award is presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball. The award is named after a Kyle Macy, a guard who starred as a freshman at Purdue.

Douglas was key in GB's turnaround season. earning the Horizon League Freshman of the Year and a spot on the All-Freshman Team. Douglas was the most prolific first-year scorer in the entire league, ending the year second on the Phoenix at 8.5 points per game. Douglas scored in double figures in 11 of his 27 games, including three 20+ point performances, the most by any freshman in the HL. The Phoenix sharpshooter was especially strong since the start of the year, averaging 11.1 points per game.

The recipient of the annual award is determined by a 10-member voting committee, which consists of current and former head coaches, as well as two senior staff members of collegeinsider.com. The 2024 award will be announced in Phoenix, AZ, site of the men's Division I Basketball Championship.
