DETROIT, Mich. - The Green Bay softball team concluded the 2024 season by splitting a doubleheader against the Detroit Mercy Titans on Saturday afternoon. GB dropped game one before surviving a shootout in game two.

GAME 1 | Detroit Mercy 3, Green Bay 2

HOW IT HAPPENED
Freshman Martha Miller had a quality start in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader. She tossed six strong innings, surrendering six hits while walking just one and striking out four. The damage only came on two UDM solo home runs, first by Alexis Hoff in the second frame and Jaiden Lara in the seventh, which represented the game-winning score.

Green Bay entered the fourth inning down 2-0, but Sydney Lamotte knotted the game at 2-2 on a two-run blast over the left-center field wall, the first long ball of her collegiate career. The Phoenix got the leadoff batter on base in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings but was unable to cash in before Lara's game-winner with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

GAME NOTES

» Kaylin Fahy, LaMotte, and Gianna Camacho all had two hits.
» Green Bay's defense was active, fielding 11 ground balls and two fly balls.
» Senior Warrington led the Titans pitching staff, throwing seven innings of two-run ball.

GAME 2 | Green Bay 10, Detroit Mercy 9

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game two was the complete opposite, turning into a slugfest in the fifth inning.

UDM's Elyssa Adams made it 2-0 Titans on a sacrifice fly, but the Phoenix responded with six unanswered beginning with a Bella Herman RBI single to get GB on the board. Sam Saloun tied the game with an RBI double, bringing in Herman. Saloun returned to the dish in the fifth inning and launched a grand slam to left-center, giving Green Bay a 6-2 lead. The Phoenix wasn't done yet, extending the lead to 8-2 on a LaMotte long ball, her second of the day and of her young career.

Jordan Kavanaugh gave UDM some life with an RBI double in the bottom of the fifth, making it 8-3 in favor of GB. In the bottom of the sixth with the bases loaded, Jenna Holt cut UDM's deficit to four with with an RBI single. Trinity Fessler ensued by crushing a grand slam to tie the game 8-8. The Phoenix retook the lead in the top of the seventh, with Hailey Heckenlaible swiping second base after reaching on a fielder's choice. A couple of batters later, Gianna Camacho punched a single to right field, and the speed of Saloun and Heckenlaible gave GB a 10-8 lead. The Titans had the bases loaded with one out down 10-9, and the Green Bay defense stepped up in a big moment. Holt hit a sharp ground ball to second base, and Karissa Laabs threw home to get a big second out. Fessler grounded out to third to end the contest.

Kelly Greene earned her first win of the season as Green Bay escaped with the 10-9 victory to end the 2024 campaign.

GAME NOTES
» Saloun drove in five runs and tallied three hits for Green Bay.
» Green Bay's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed six runs across.
» GB went 5-for-9 (.556) with runners in scoring position.
