GREEN BAY, Wis. – Thursday afternoon, Green Bay volleyball head coach Abbey Sutherland announced the hiring of Shannon Coughlin as an assistant coach. Coughlin returns to the Phoenix after playing for Green Bay from 2018-22.
"I'm filled with gratitude and excitement to be back in Green Bay to share my love and knowledge for the game in a different role this time around!" Coughlin said. "Green Bay Volleyball, and the community around Green Bay Athletics as a whole has given me so much and it feels right to be in a place where I can give so much back in return."
After Coughlin's Green Bay playing career, she took her talents overseas to Lemesos Volleyball in Limassol, Cyprus, and later Quimper Volley 29 in Quimper, France. She spent five years in Titletown as a player, racking up 900+ kills, 240+ digs, and 140+ blocks. She served as a team captain from 2020-22, made the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll six times, and was a part of the 2018 Horizon League regular season and tournament champions.
"Shannon is a learner, she models gratitude, she does things with her own flair, and she thrives in competitive settings," Sutherland added. "It's so evident that Shannon is dedicated to Green Bay Volleyball's core values and purpose. Her passion for Green Bay Volleyball will motivate our team to level up on and off the court. She will relate to our players with empathy, but she will also know how to push them and help them grow. I am beyond excited to have her back in Green Bay."
From 2018-22, Coughlin also served as a Volleyball Camp Lead Director for Green Bay Volleyball Camps and Nike Sports Camps. Since May of 2022, she has also served as an assistant coach at Lawrence University, where she assisted in recruiting, training, and branding efforts.
Coughlin graduated from Green Bay with a bachelor's degree in Education in 2021 and a master's degree in Applied Leadership in 2022. She is a 2018 graduate of Clay High School in Oregon, Ohio.
