GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay volleyball team took care of business in four sets (28-26, 22-25, 25-16, 25-20) to beat the Northern Illinois Huskies Friday at home at Kress Events Center. The league win improved Green Bay's record to 13-6 overall and 6-2 in the Horizon League.
The Phoenix was led by a double-double from Diane Pichelman, who registered 18 kills and 13 digs on the day. Alexa Hernandez also had a double-double, finishing with 38 assists and 13 digs. Â Kirsten Fish also added 10 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Macy Kline led the way with 18 digs, while Olivia Neumann finished with seven blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | Strong serving helped the Phoenix grab the first set 28-26, as the team racked up five aces. Phoenix opened up an 11-5 lead early before the Huskies responded and had GB on the ropes, building up a 24-22 advantage. GB rallied and went on a 6-2 run to win set one.
SET 2 | Green Bay dropped the second set 25-22 to tie the match 1-1. Northern Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was tied up four times before the Huskies took over the lead and never looked back.
SET 3 | Green Bay put the second-set loss in the rearview mirror and took a 2-1 match lead with a commanding 25-16 win in the third. The Phoenix collected 16 kills in the set, hitting .333 as a team. Green Bay's front row also had a solid performance defensively, blocking four Northern Illinois attacks.
SET 4 | Green Bay kept the momentum going, closing out the match with a 25-20 set-four victory. NIU led for most of the start of the set, but the Phoenix battled back and consistently outscored the visitors down the stretch to take the match win.
