Season-High From Genke Gets Green Bay Past Golden Grizzlies

The Phoenix had a strong second and fourth quarter, outscoring Oakland a combined 36-11

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Callie Genke racked up a season-high 22 points to help the Green Bay women's basketball team defeat Oakland 69-39 on Saturday afternoon.

Natalie McNeal added 18 more for the Phoenix (15-5, 8-1 HL), while Jenna Guyer chipped in off the bench with 10 points. Cassie Schiltz tallied another nine. Green Bay's win streak moved to eight consecutive.

Oakland (7-11, 5-4 HL) was led by Dani Grim's 15 points. She was the only Golden Grizzly to reach double figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay rushed out to a 9-0 lead in the first 3:07 of the game, capped by a layup from Kondrakiewicz. Oakland called timeout and responded with a 14-4 run before McNeal scored to stop the bleeding. Genke set up the score with a steal before Bailey Butler assisted McNeal's layup, sending GB into the second quarter leading 15-14. Green Bay played exceptionally in the second frame, shooting 8-of-13 as a team. The Phoenix defense stymied Oakland's offense for just 1-of-9 shooting and four points in the stanza, entering the halftime break with a 35-18 advantage.

The Golden Grizzlies came out of the locker room much better on offense, but the Phoenix went shot-for-shot to keep its distance on the scoreboard. Genke tallied five points, and Guyer had four points in the period, helping Green Bay carry a 53-32 lead into the fourth quarter. GB again played solid defense in the fourth period, holding Oakland to just 3-of-15 from the field. A layup by Schiltz with 3:35 remaining in regulation extended the lead to 30, which ended up being the difference on the scoreboard as Green Bay blew out Oakland 69-39.

GAME NOTES
» The Phoenix held the Golden Grizzlies to only 30.2 percent shooting from the field.
» GB had a 37-29 edge on the boards in the win.
