Phoenix Falls in Straight Sets at Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Green Bay volleyball team could not overcome a dynamic Norse offense Friday on the road, losing to Northern Kentucky in three sets (22-25, 23-25, 20-25). The loss dropped Green Bay's record to 8-16 overall and 7-6 in Horizon play.
 
The Phoenix offense was paced by Katie Schulz, who finished with 15 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .433, and by Gillian Koning, who had 10. GB got 12 digs from Emma Best, along with five blocks from Olivia Neumann, to lead them defensively.
 
Sydney Bray led the Norse with 14 kills, three aces, and three blocks.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix fell in a back-and-forth first set, losing 25-22 in a game that featured five lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match. NKU had its strongest offensive set in the first, racking up 18 kills on a .368 attack percentage.
 
SET 2 | A 25-23 second-set loss put Green Bay in a 2-0 deficit in the match. The Phoenix dropped set two in spite of a strong performance on the attacking side. Green Bay registered a .412 attack percentage with 16 kills, while the Norse had 18 kills on a .342 attack percentage.
 
SET 3 | The Phoenix unfortunately came up short again in the third by the score of 25-20. Green Bay trailed by as many as seven points as Northern Kentucky grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up two times before the Norse took over the lead.
 
GAME NOTES
» The Norse outscored the Phoenix 75-65 on the night.
» NKU hit .313 to GB's .287.
» Green Bay attackers were helped by a team-high 39 assists from Emma Johnson.

Green Bay will match up with Northern Kentucky tomorrow at noon before returning home next weekend to square off against IU Indy on Nov. 7 & 8.
