ABOUT THE BADGERS
Head Coach Robin Pingeton is in her first season at Wisconsin. Pingeton was Missouri's coach for the past 15 seasons and led the Tigers to three NCAA Tournament appearances. Wisconsin is 3-1 so far this season with wins over Oakland, Milwaukee, and Bowling Green. Destiny Howell leads Wisconsin, averaging 13.3 points per game. Kyrah Daniels is right behind, averaging 13. Gift Uchenna Okeke also averages 10 points per game and is the team's leading rebounder at 7.5 per game. Dorja Iva Zaja is tied for fifth in the NCAA, averaging 3.5 blocks per game.
LAST TIME OUT
The Green Bay women's basketball team defeated New Hampshire 76-64 in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon. Five Phoenix players scored in double-figures:
Carley Duffney (13),
Meghan Schultz (12),
Kristina Ouimette (12),
Ellie Buzzelle (11), and
Kamy Peppler (10).
Gracie Grzesk also contributed with nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.
KARIUS ERA
After winning the Horizon League and making the NCAA Tournament in her first season as the Phoenix, Head Coach
Kayla Karius will look to do the same in year two with an overhauled roster. Green Bay graduated seven seniors and 85.2% of its scoring from 2024-25. The 2025-26 Phoenix features eight newcomers, consisting of six transfers and two true freshmen. After two seasons as the head coach at South Dakota and her season with the Phoenix, Karius holds an all-time record of 70-35.
MAGNIFICENT MEGHAN
Redshirt-Sophomore
Meghan Schultz once again dominated in the team's 67-43 victory over North Dakota on Tuesday. Schultz recorded a career-high 26 points, her second 20-point game of the season. Schultz also contributed 12 points and four rebounds in GB's win over New Hampshire on Thursday.
BALLER BUZZ
Senior
Ellie Buzzelle has been a key part of Green Bay's early-season success. So far this season, Buzzelle is averaging eight points and six rebounds per game. Buzzelle also scored a career-high since joining Green Bay last season, with 12 points last Thursday against Loyola Chicago. Buzzelle had an efficient shooting day, converting on all three of her three-pointers, scoring 11 points, and recording four assists in a win over New Hampshire on Thursday.
A KEY ADDITION
Former Oakland standout and the lone Horizon League All-League player left in the league from a season ago,
Maddy Skorupski, will wear the Green & White in her senior season. Skorupski is third on the team in points per game at 9.3 and second on the team in rebounds per game at five. She is also tied for first on the team, averaging five assists and 2.5 steals per game. The native of Clarkston, Mich., was the leading scorer for Green Bay in their win over Loyola Chicago last Thursday, tallying 15 points.
CARLEY'S COMEBACK
A disciple of
Kayla Karius during their time together at South Dakota, the two-time CSC Academic All-District and former 1,000-point scorer of Green Bay Preble High School returns home to Green Bay as a senior. Through four games, Duffney is averaging 11.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Duffney scored 13 points against both North Dakota and New Hampshire this week.
POINT PEPPLER
Previously an All-Freshman Team selection for the Horizon League in 2022-23, and the 2022 Wisconsin Miss Basketball award winner,
Kamy Peppler spent the last three seasons with Milwaukee in the Horizon League. The Hortonville, Wis. native, is averaging 8.3 points and is tied for first on the team in assists, averaging 5.0 per game. Peppler recorded a season-high 10 points in the Phoenix win over New Hampshire on Thursday.
WINNING WITH KARIUS
Head Coach
Kayla Karius earned her 70th career win in her fourth season as an NCAA Division I head coach on Thursday, with a 76-64 win against New Hampshire.
