Phoenix Readies for Oneida Nation Celebration with Haskell Indian Nations

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Men's Basketball team is set to face the Haskell Indian Nation at the Kress Event Center on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. CST.

Over the past year, Oneida Nation and UWGB officials have been collaborating on ideas that flourished into tangible efforts to demonstrate the long-standing respect and recognition that each entity has for the other. Settling on recognizing the contributions of the Oneida Nation in Northeast Wisconsin, UWGB has honored the Nation during Native American Heritage month by sporting a new basketball jersey, as well as hosting tomorrow's game against Haskell Indian Nations. Haskell is a n NAIA college out of Kansas whose mission is to serve Indigenous students from across the United States.

HEAD COACH DOUG GOTTLIEB
"We are so excited to compete against Haskell Saturday at the Kress. Haskell plays fast and incredibly hard, we need to continue to set the tone energy and physicality wise. This game is about competition, but also I want our players to understand the importance of the First Nations culture and how we will properly honor the Native American Culture anytime we play, especially when we play with our special inspired uniforms.

We will play this game with heavy hearts due to the passing of Ernie Stevens recently. Ernie Stevens was the chair of the Indian Gaming Association, he was also an alum of Haskell and he played basketball at Haskell, as did his son Brandon, who along with Ernie, are the biggest reasons for this game happening!"
