Defensive Effort Leads Green Bay over Wisconsin-Stevens Point, 85-37

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay women's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season with a dominant 85-37 win over Division III UW-Stevens Point at the Kress Center Monday night.

The Phoenix had four players score in double figures, led by Meghan Schultz, who had a career-high 20 points and nine rebounds in her first collegiate start. Carley Duffney added 12 points while Kristina Ouimette and Julianna Ouimette helped out with 10 points each off the bench.

Green Bay did an excellent job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 27 assists while turning the ball over 11 times. Maddy Skorupski and Kamy Peppler finished with seven assists each, leading GB.

Green Bay's defense held Wisconsin-Stevens Point to just 24.2-percent from the floor and 20.0-percent from deep.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After jumping out to an 11-5 advantage, Green Bay went on a 10-0 run with 3:33 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Schultz, to increase its lead to 21-5, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. Green Bay did most of its first-quarter damage in the paint, scoring 14 of its 21 points close to the basket.

The second quarter was much closer, as the Pointers outscored the Phoenix 13-12 in the frame. GB still took a 33-18 advantage into the break.

Green Bay wasted no time building on its first-half lead, going on a 14-0 run early in the second half, punctuated by a three from Julianna Ouimette, to expand the score to 47-18 with 5:45 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, Phoenix added eight points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 58-21 edge.
