Green Bay Advances to Horizon League Championship for First Time in Program History

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team is moving on to the Horizon League Championship game after knocking off No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky on Thursday, 2-1. The win will send the team to the Horizon League Championship for the first time in program history.

The Phoenix will square off against top-seeded Milwaukee at the Panthers' home field on Saturday, November 8, at 1 p.m. CST. The Panthers have won the Horizon League Championships for seven straight years.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Laney Stark scored a goal to give the Phoenix an early 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute after corralling a loose ball and taking a shot across the face of the goal to beat the Northern Kentucky keeper. It wasn't long before Northern Kentucky gave a response, tying the match at one goal apiece thanks to an Erykah Cornett header in the 33rd minute. Sophia Kapszukiewicz and Lilly Yordy each collected assists on the goal.

In under 10 minutes into the second half, Stark took the ball off a Norse defender and beat the goalie once again to give the Phoenix a 2-1 lead in the 54th minute. NKU's Yordy had multiple shots in the game's final 10 minutes, but couldn't capitalize as Green Bay secured the semifinal victory.
