HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - The Green Bay women's basketball team will begin its 2025-26 Horizon League season on Thursday, as the Phoenix travel to Greater Cincinnati to take on the Northern Kentucky Norse. Green Bay will return home on Sunday for its first Horizon League home game against Youngstown State at 11:30 a.m. CST.

ABOUT THE NORSE
Northern Kentucky is led by second-year head coach Jeff Hans, who sits at a record of 3-6 entering Thursday's game. The Norse started off 0-4, losing to #20 Louisville and Butler in that span, before winning three of their last five games, currently riding a two-game win streak with wins over Drake (90-69) on Wednesday, and Southern Indiana (77-71) on Sunday. Taysha Rushton had 20 points off the bench for the Norse in Sunday's win, while the team's leading average scorer, Karina Bystry (11.3), added 16 on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range on Sunday, while scoring 17 points on 3-of-5 three-point shooting in Wednesday's win over Drake. The Norse's leading rebounder is Maddie Moody, who snags 5.4 boards per game while simultaneously leading the squad with 0.89 blocks per game.

ABOUT THE PENGUINS
Youngstown State is led by second-year head coach Melissa Jackson. spending 15 seasons at Akron, one at Cleveland State and one at YSU. The Penguins have started the year strong at 5-2 and play Milwaukee on Dec. 5. Youngstown State is led by three double digit scorers with Casey Santoro leading the way with 12.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Sarah Baker averages 11.0 points while Erica King is averaging 10.3 points per game.

Green Bay has been strong at home in 2025-26, starting the year 4-0. The Phoenix is 1-1 on the road and 0-2 in neutral site games.

Green Bay has been in the top five of the CollegeInsider Women's Basketball Top 25 Poll all season long. After dropping games against #25 NC State and RV Richmond at the Cancun Challenge, the Phoenix dropped to #6.

Meghan Schultz continued her breakout season in the team's 47-44 win over Kansas State, scoring 12 points while grabbing a team high ten boards, recording the first double-double of her career, and the first of the season for any Green Bay player. Schultz swatted the game saving block in the final seconds that helped secure the major win for the Phoenix. Schultz is leading the team in points per game, averaging 13.9, and is second on the team in rebounds per game with 5.3.

SKORING SKORUPSKI
Former Oakland standout and the lone Horizon League All-League player left in the league from a season ago,
Maddy Skorupski, will wear the Green & White in her senior season. Skorupski is third on the team in points per game at 9.6 and second in assists per game, averaging 3.6. She leads the Phoenix with 5.4 rebounds per game and leads GB with 2.3 steals per game. The native of Clarkston, Mich., was the leading scorer for Green Bay in their win over Loyola Chicago on Nov. 6, tallying 15 points.

CARLEY'S COMEBACK
A disciple of
Kayla Karius during their time together at South Dakota, the two-time CSC Academic All-District and former 1,000-point scorer of Green Bay Preble High School returns home to Green Bay as a senior. Through six games, Duffney is averaging 9.1 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. Duffney has scored in double figures in four out of GB's six games.

GUYER ON FIRE
Jenna Guyer has made the most of her minutes since returning to the Phoenix lineup. Guyer led Green Bay in scoring throughout the Cancun Challenge, scoring 15 vs #25 NC State last Thursday, and 16 points in 19 minutes against (RV) Richmond on Friday. Guyer is second on the team in scoring, with 11.7 points per game, while averaging seventh on the team in minutes (21.7). Guyer was named to the Cancun Challenge All-Tournament Team for averaging 15.5 points and 2.5 rebounds across her two games.

LAST TIME OUT
On Saturday afternoon, the Green Bay Women's Basketball team gutted out a win over Kansas State, 47-44. GB was led by 13 points from
Maddy Skorupski and a 12-point, 10-rebound day from
Meghan Schultz. Green Bay is now 2-0 in games vs. Big-12 teams at the Kress. The defense was the main contributing factor to the Phoenix. GB held K-State to just 31.1 percent shooting and 8.7 percent shooting from three. The win is the first for the Phoenix over a Big-12 school since the 2021-22 season.

After winning the Horizon League and making the NCAA Tournament in her first season as the Phoenix Head Coach,
Kayla Karius will look to do the same in year two with an overhauled roster. Green Bay graduated seven seniors and 85.2% of its scoring from 2024-25. The 2025-26 Phoenix features eight newcomers, consisting of six transfers and two true freshmen. After two seasons as the head coach at South Dakota and her season with the Phoenix, Karius holds an all-time record of 71-36.
