Four Phoenix Score in Double Figures in 70-60 Win over Northern Kentucky

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Four Phoenix scored in double figures as the Green Bay Women's basketball team moved to 1-0 in Horizon League play after winning 70-60 at Northern Kentucky on Thursday.

The Phoenix (6-4) was led by 13 points and six rebounds from Meghan Schultz and another 13 points and a team high 4 steals from Jenna Guyer. The bench also contributed in a big way, with Gracie Grzesk scoring 12 points in 21 minutes and Kallie Peppler adding 10 in 15 minutes. Peppler shot 4-for-4 from the floor and 2-for-2 from three.

The Norse had three players score 11 points: Maddie Moody, Kylee Hunt, and Mya Meredith.

HEAD COACH KAYLA KARIUS
"It was a good team win tonight on the road," said Karius. "We got a good lift from the bench, especially the scoring from Gracie and Kallie, but also Ellie's solid defense. That is a talented NKU team and it took tough defense for 40 minutes to get it done."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay and NKU exchanged buckets to start the first quarter, trading the lead back-and-forth. However, it was the Phoenix cashing in on threes from Ellie Buzzelle and Kallie Peppler, and dominance in the paint from Schultz and Grzesk to give Green Bay the 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Green Bay kept its first-quarter lead intact, outscoring the Norse 18-10 in the second quarter, capped by a Kallie Peppler three to give the Phoenix a 37-25 halftime lead. The Phoenix closed the half with an 8-2 run.

Following intermission, Green Bay extended its lead to 20 at 45-25 after a Guyer three. That lead stayed intact for the most part, as GB entered the fourth quarter with a 60-42 lead.

Northern Kentucky chipped away in the fourth, outscoring Green Bay 18-10, but it wasn't enough, and the Phoenix held on for a 70-60 win.
