GREEN BAY, Wis. – Five Phoenix scored in double figures as the Green Bay men's basketball team beat Detroit Mercy 76-71 at the Resch Center on Thursday. Jeremiah Johnson scored 20+ points for the third time in his career to lead Green Bay, finishing the night with 20 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
 
Other Phoenix that finished in double figures were Marcus Hall (14), Ben Tweedy (13), Mac Wrecke (12), and C.J. O'Hara (11). GB only had eight active players on Thursday.
 
Green Bay did an excellent job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 13 assists while turning the ball over just six times. Tweedy's four assists led the Phoenix.
TJ Nadeau led the Titans with 15 points and eight rebounds on the night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 23-14 early, Green Bay followed with a 6-0 run with 6:53 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Johnson, to narrow the deficit to 23-20. Detroit Mercy went ahead again 30-20 before a 10-3 run before the half ended cut the Titans lead to 33-30 heading into the break.
The two teams traded baskets to start the second. Ryan Wade gave Green Bay its first lead of the second half after a top-of-the key three pointer gave GB a 39-37 lead with 14:18 to go. The Titans would wrestle the lead back before the Phoenix took the lead for good at 47-46 after another Wade three, this time with 10:01 in the game. GB held the lead down the stretch thanks in large part to nine of ten made free throws.
GAME NOTES
» The Titans outrebounded GB 42-36.
» Green Bay cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 10 offensive boards in the game.
» GB won despite shooting just 37.7 percent from the floor and 28.6 percent from three.
» Green Bay got a team-high seven rebounds from O'Hara.
 
UP NEXT
Green Bay will close out the regular season this Saturday when they host Oakland at the Resch Center at 6 p.m. As the Horizon League's No. 11 seed, Green Bay will travel to the No. 6 seed for a matchup in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship First Round on Tuesday, March 4. As things stand, the Phoenix would travel to Oakland.
