GREEN BAY, Wis. – On Monday afternoon, the Green Bay women's basketball team and head coach
Kayla Karius announced the addition of Lily Hansford. Hansford, the Green Bay native and former Appleton East star, will transfer to Green Bay from Iowa State for her senior season.
The 6'2" guard started her college career out west at Oregon State. She saw action in 65 games with the Beavers and as a sophomore averaged 5.1 points per game while shooting over 45-percent from three, a mark that led the PAC-12. That same season, Hansford scored in double figures seven times, including 12 points against South Carolina in the Elite Eight.
"We are excited to welcome Lily Hansford home to Green Bay," said Karius. "Lily is an elite level shooter who has proven herself against college basketball's best competition. She will give us an immediate perimeter scoring threat and has great size and length to be a dual threat in the post as well. We're thrilled to have Lily competing in a Green Bay uniform next season. Welcome home Lily and Hansford family!"
Hansford played her junior season this past year at Iowa State, where she saw action in 32 games. On January 25 against UCF, she recorded a season-high 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from deep. She had 17 games this past season where she shot 50-percent or better from beyond the arc.
"I chose Green Bay because of my relationship with the coaching staff and the strong culture the Phoenix has always maintained," added Hansford. "The opportunity to play my senior season in front of family and friends was also important to me. I'm thrilled about this next chapter and can't wait for the season ahead! Go Phoenix!"
At Appleton East, Hansford was named AP and WBCA All-State Honorable Mention, was a three-time All-Conference selection, and two-time All-Area honoree.
